It is not difficult to find the origins of firearms in White Settlement, Texas. The town was founded in 1849 by Mormon pioneers as a station on the Santa Fe Trail. At its peak, White Settlement had a population of over 1,200 people. As the town developed and grew more prosperous, it became an important center for arms manufacturing and sales. In 1845, a group of American settlers, led by Captain James Fayette Houston, founded White Settlement in present-day Texas. The settlement was named for the white settlement in England that had been established the year before. The colonists were primarily English Protestants and many of them owned firearms. By 1847, White Settlement had a population of around 100 people. The first guns to be imported into White Settlement were three shotguns from England. These shotguns were used to test new firearms and equipment being brought over from England. In 1848, White Settlement started trading with the Mexican state of Pueblo de Mexico and began importing goods from that country as well. In 1850, the town of White Settlement became an official U.S. territory following the Mexican-American War; it remained so until 1912 when it was ceded back to Mexico under Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
White Settlement, Texas was a settlement in the present day Brazoria County, Texas. It was established on October 10, 1836 by white settlers led by Captain James Folsom and his wife Sarah Cook Folsom. The settlement grew rapidly after it was designated as the seat of government for Brazoria County by the Texas General Land Office. By 1840, White Settlement had a population of about 375 people. The town site was chosen because it lay on the direct road from San Antonio to Houston and because its location made it convenient for trade with Mexico and other parts of the United States. The first Mexican immigrants were welcomed into White Settlement in 1839. Over time, settlers brought in more Mexicans, African Americans, and Texans who had arrived during the Texan Revolution (1836-1845). In 1840, White Settlement's first school opened at what is now First Baptist Church. In 1846-47, White Settlement joined Brazoria County as part of a larger area called Red River Colony which became known as Galveston County. White Settlement continued to grow until it had a population of 592 people by 1850. By then, most of the original settlers had died or moved away due to diseases such as smallpox that swept through their flock in early 1850s.

White Settlement was a land grant to James White in 1836 that encompassed present-day Travis County, Texas. The grant was made in the Mexican Cession and included parts of today's Austin and San Antonio metropolitan areas. James White was one of the first white men to set foot on what is now Texas soil. He arrived with his family from England in 1829, and he soon began working on the ranching portion of the grant. In 1840, White married Eliza Gonzales, who had also been born in Texas. Together they founded the village of Fredericksburg near Austin. The Whites were local heroes due to their contributions to Texan history and culture. The original white settlers in Travis County were primarily Englishmen and Scottish immigrants who arrived during the 1830s as part of a wave of Anglo-Saxon immigration that swept through Mexico after its independence from Spain. Most of these newcomers came directly from London or Glasgow, but there were also a few Irishmen and Germans among them. By 1850, about 50 percent of Texans lived within five miles (8 km) of Austin proper; most residents here belonged to Protestant denominations other than Catholicism or Roman Catholicism—a situation that would change significantly over time as Catholic patronage grew throughout much of Southwest Texas (the so-called "New Mexico Country"). James White's gift to Texans represented an important milestone in Lone Star State history: it marked not only the initial colonization by Europeans but also their permanent departure from what is now central California into what is now Southwestern Texas when railroads reached this region in the late 19th century. For many years thereafter, Texans considered themselves "owners" rather than "settlers," enjoying exclusive rights to certain tracts along both banks of the Colorado River—a position that would eventually be eroded by population growth and urban development around Austin and San Antonio over which they had no control whatsoever.
The white settlement of Texas began in the late 18th century, as a result of the Mexican–American War. The area that now includes Austin and its surrounding counties was part of Mexico, while portions of today's Texas were part of Texas ranching country. In 1836, following the Treaty of San Antonio, Mexican president Santa Anna ceded most of what is now Texas to United States control. U.S. forces soon discovered vast new land west of the Rio Grande, including parts of present-day Austin and Travis County. President James K. Polk decided to send General Zachary Taylor to explore these lands in 1845-46, leading to the founding of Austin and Travis County as American possessions in what is today North Texas.
