On July 6, 1907 an act passed by Congress designated land at what would become West University Place for public housing developments with 75 lots given to citizens of Houston for $2 per acre (this price doubled within one year). In 1932 development began on what would become known as "The Townsite" which included 269 lots - today's Community Development Corporation building lot #1 was included in this parcel. In 1941 construction began on what would become known as "The Hill". This addition increased the number of homes from 375 to 472 and increased ground space from 681 sq ft to 1,468 sq ft over 10 years Construction ended in 1949 when cash became available for purchase at $5 per sq ft and West University Place came into being as a separate municipality with its own government police force. In 1955 an act passed by Congress designated land at what would become Northside for public housing developments with 95 lots given to citizens of Houston for $2 per acre (this price tripled within one year). The first buildings were built here including Northside Elementary School (1955), Navy Pier Shopping Center (1959), Christmastime Gift Shop (1960), Baptist Hospital Annexe (1963) and Stemmons Freeway Extension office building/residential complex project #4E(1965-1966). Museum District No 3B opened here also including Rice Village Hall & Garden museum Building*(1968), Midtown Tower complex[a] (*now part of NRG Center) & Fairview Terrace[b] (*now part of Rice Village Hall & Garden museum Building) which are all still functioning today. These projects turned out to be very successful andrews mall buildings opened here too such as Hobby Lobby, Menard’s department store,[c] Sam’s Club[d], etc.. Today WUSA tv anchors their new studios located just off I-10 near Spring Branch Rd.. There are many other businesses that have grown up around these anchor stores including Burger King [e], Tim Hortons,[f], Starbucks [g], KFC[h], Pizza Hut [i],[j],[k],[l],[m],[n],[o],[p]'s Longhorn Steakhouse restaurant[] *opened now inside NRG Center

West University Place is a historic site located in the town of West University Place, Texas. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The property includes two contributing buildings and a number of contributing objects. The first building on the site was built in 1892 as the home of John W. West, a prominent oilman and real estate developer. It has been used as a school, library, and office since then. The second building was built in 1922 as the first station on the now-defunct Houston Rapid Transit Company line. It served as an interchange for passenger trains heading east and west from Houston through West University Place. The structure fell into disrepair and was sold to coaster company operator Texas Eastern Railway in 1949. The company demolished it in 1951 and replaced it with a new facility that still stands today. The west side of West University Place contains several other historically significant sites including Uptown Elementary School (1925), First Baptist Church (1892), Post Office (1920), Masonic Lodge No.(1) (1896), Methodist Episcopal Church (1893), Perry Park House (1902).

West University Place is a small park located in the heart of downtown Austin, Texas. The site was donated to the city by West University students in 1951. The first public use of the land was a football game between Austin and San Antonio on November 11, 1951.
