While there have been several alterations to West University Place over time - most notably through annexation by Irvington during the 1960s - its core business district remains largely unchanged today with a mix of retail stores including Sears Roebuck&Co., JCPenney, Macy's(former Metropolitan Life Insurance Company), Sam's Club(formerly Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company) and Lowe's Home Depot( founder Charles Haskins ).
