West University Place is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. It is the seat of Collin County and was founded in 1879 by Judge William P. West and his wife, Eliza R. West. The city has a population of 52,848 as of 2010. It lies on the southern edge of Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is bordered to the north by Arlington County and to the east by Denton County. Interstate 10 passes through its center, providing access to Dallas–Fort Worth Airport. The area that would become West University Place was first settled in 1879 by Judge William P. West and his wife, Eliza R., after they purchased land from the Haskell brothers for $10 per acre (the transaction was documented as "The Purchase"). In 1887, Judge West donated land to Baylor University which then renamed it Baylor College Park; this donation became known as "West University Place". On November 1, 1889, Mayor James Aiken dedicated what would become Baylor College Park at an event attended by President John Foust and other dignitaries including General James Buell; this dedication is now known as "The Day of Service." In 1893–1894 local merchant Wm Hargrave donated lumber for the construction of two large academic buildings on what would become Baylor College Park: one building still stands today (known as Hargrave Hall), while the second building (now McLennan Hall) became home to Baylor’s law school during its early years. In 1899 Congressman J.-D. McNamara moved from Dallas to Collin County with his family in order to pursue Congressional representation there; he purchased property adjacent to where present-day BaylorCollegePark sits from Wm Hargrave and built a compound consisting of several homes which still stand today - called McNamara House/Doherty House/Hargrave Hall/Baylor Law School Complex (later named McLennan Hall). The city of Westville was created outgrowth of these developments when annexation passed via referendum on May 3, 1901 under terms set forth in Proposition 236 – a measure approved by more than 60% of voters statewide who were interested in creating new municipalities withinCollin County due to rapid growth aroundDallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area following World War I (. . .) With Austin becoming increasingly popular among college students living away from home due to allureof great opportunities available near campus or downtown Dallas-Ft Worth airport – so too didWestville grow rapidly into a vibrant communityletechanical engineering community needing only limited government support for continued success! On July 1st 1907 City Council voted 2-to-1 against annexing neighboring Arlington Heights because they felt that doing so would have impaired their own economy enough without any benefit going back their way Additionally annexation proceedings had been stalled multiple times throughout 1907 due largely due Governor Sanborn’s reluctance towards annexing rural areas west OF Fort Worth even though East Fort Worth had experienced phenomenal growth since comprehensive public works legislation authorizing such development had been enacted just prior thereto . . . finally relenting after learning about some residents concerns about possible adverse impacts ensuing from annexation – annexations were authorized effective July 1st resulting in tremendous amountsOf new housing being built subsequent thereto makingWU Place one stop on your day trip FROM Ft Worth!
