Weslaco is a small town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 579 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first white settlers in Weslaco were James Hunt and his family who arrived in 1827 from Kentucky. They named their land "Wesley" after John Wesley, leader of the Methodist Church in England. In 1849, Wm. Hogg bought some of the land from Hunt and laid out a town on it called Hoggstown which soon disappeared into history because no one ever built there. In 1876 an act by the state legislature created Webb County which included Weslaco as its seat. A post office was established at Wesley in 1877 and continued to serve until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1896, a sawmill started operation near Weslaco and quickly became one of the most important businesses in town. By 1907, however, when prohibition repealed alcohol sales statewide within Texas, Businessman Jno Denton closed the mill and moved his plant to Damon Creek where he operated it until his death in 1967. In 1915 a fire destroyed most of downtown Weslaco but only damaged two stores; one belonging to Brickell & Associates (later known as Brazos Group) with its headquarters on Elm Street near Main Street while another store belonging to Pemberton & Grant (later known as Kress Corporation) on Elm Street between Main and Webster Streets survived unharmed despite being among several buildings that caught ablaze during the firestorm that followed what later became known as "The Great Weslaco Fire." Despite containing extensive damage both inside and outside of its building core, this single event marked perhapsthe first time that efficiency measures had been put into effect for outdoor fires due to concerns about possible loss or destruction of valuable property adjacent to habitations located within easy access flames such as those encountered during open burning events thereafter termed " grease Fires." Just days after becoming aware of this potential hazard local officials convened an emergency meeting attended by representatives from various interest groups including insurance companies chaired by Mayor George Fenton to discuss ways best prevent such losses from future occurrences culminating with recommendations for putting up chain link fences around all business properties situated within 500 feet or less thereof surrounded by accelerant free areas having automatic sprinkler systems activated should extreme conditions prevail ensuing consequences such as significant loss or destruction either structure thereby limiting exposure or threatened public health impact resulting ultimately from extinguishing flames rather than allowing them direct access Contactless digital camera system installed throughout entire facility providing real-time video monitoring capability Thoroughly inspected prior to commencement operations

This enabled operators to communicate with one another during combat even in adverse conditions without having recourse to Morse code or electronic communication systems

Weslaco is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,660 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Weslaco was founded by John Wesley Hardin and his family in 1873. The first post office in Weslaco was established in 1876. In 1901, the name of the town changed to Weslaco after General Lew Wallace's victory over Mexican forces at the Battle of Weslaco. The current name originated with a campaign slogan of local businessman Don Bruce Swindlehurst: "We'll say loco (locally) when we want to say looney." In 1907, construction began on what would become one of Austin's most famous landmarks - Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library and Museum. Construction continued until 1969 when it closed due to budget cuts. Today, parts of the library still stand; however, only the Archives and Records Building remain operational as a museum open to the public since 2001. Other notable buildings include W Hotel which served asAustin's first luxury hotel; First Baptist Church which became home to Austin's first African American church and also served as a school for white children before becoming integrated into Austin’s black community in 1955; and Depot Square which retains many early pioneer era commercial buildings from this time period including an old cotton gin that still stands today adjacent to Interstate 35E
Weslaco was founded in 1836 by Manuel Armijo and his brother, José Armijo. The town grew rapidly due to the natural resources it had access to such as oil and gas. It became a major port for goods coming from the Mexican states of Baja California and Veracruz. In 1907, the armistice that ended World War I destroyed much of Weslaco, but it slowly recovered over time. By 1955, Weslaco had reached its current size with over 10,000 residents.
