Over time other colleges have joined or replaced Baylor as lead institutions for many major programs: Trinity Christian University (1967), Southern Methodist University (1968), Dallas Baptist University (1973), Rice University (1977) & McNeese State University(1987). Today there are fifteen universities located within twenty miles radius of downtown or one hour outside via I-35/I-10 ring road access!
