Weslaco is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The first settler in Weslaco was James Ewing and his wife Martha (née Fenton). James and Martha built their home on the corner of 4th Street and Elm Avenue in 1872. The couple raised their five children there before moving to what is now Midland in 1876. By 1888, the family had moved again, this time to Weslaco proper. They established a grocery store on Main Street and continued to run it until they sold it in 1951 to Cyrus Hargrave Sr./Jr.. In that year, they also opened a post office at 910 S Washington Ave., which served them until 1978 when they sold it back to the Hargrave family. In 1951, Clyde Hargrave Sr./Jr., son of Cyrus Hargrave Jr./Jr., bought the grocery store from his father-in-law for $3,000 cash. He operated it as an independent business until he donated it to Weslaco High School in 1984 so that students could have access to education outside of school hours. Since then, Weslaco High School has been one of the most successful high schools in Texas with over 100% graduation rates for its graduates who attend one or more colleges or universities! In addition, since 1984 Weslaco has also been home to The Lighthouse restaurant which serves local cuisine from around 25 restaurants throughout Texas! Today’s Weslaco community is made up largely of residents who have chosento stay here because of its location within easy commuting distance both eastward (Houston) and westward (Dallas), its comfortable climate tempered only by occasional showers during summer months due to intense rainfall events adjacent thereto; as well as its many cultural attractions including two Dallas Cowboys Stadium football games each year - making it an ideal place for families living near major professional sports stadiums!

Weslaco, Texas is a city located in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 7,527 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Brazos River and is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what would become Weslaco were three men who came to Texas from Missouri in 1836: John Wesley Hardin, James Bowie, and David Crockett. They built a toll bridge over the Brazos River and named their new town after General Sam Houston's brother-in-law, William B. Weslar. In 1839, Hardin tavern owner Isaac Neely donated land for a public school which became Hacienda School District #4. On April 15, 1840 – just two weeks after Houston's inauguration as President of Mexico – an expedition led by John Fenton crossed the river and discovered fresh water flowing into Texas from Mexico near present day Weslaco; this event is celebrated as Texan Independence Day. The first post office was established in 1830 at what is now Hollis Street and Broadway Avenue (later renamed Travis Street). In 1849 a sawmill was built on current Highway 183 west of downtown Weslaco by John Capps & Co.; it still stands today as one of the original examples of an open-air cotton gin in Texas. By 1865 about 50% of all cotton grown in east Texans came from Weslaco; corn production began declining shortly thereafter due to factors such as improved methods developed by farmers elsewhere in EastTexas In 1886 lumbermens Edwin Molyneaux and Basil Waddell founded Molyneaux & Waddell Lumber Company on present day Old US 281 south of downtown Weslaco; they soon outgrew their initial facility and constructed a larger one north of town on Pecan Road between 1915 and 1917). In 1907 oil exploration began here with American Exploration Company leased by Standard Oil Corporation president James Gattison; during World War I local businesses helped supply uniforms for American forces In 1954 local businessman Leroy Burnette purchased land southeast of downtown Weslaco from Gulf Oil Refiners Corporation for $1 million dollars which he plans to use to developFriendship Park which would include a golf course, baseball diamonds, lakeside picnic areas and other recreational amenities The city received its current name when it annexed nearby Round Rock City on November 14th 1959 Weslaco has several museums including Hacienda Museum (1840s - 1957), Lamar Institute (1907 - 1998), Museum Of Fine Arts (1955 - present) adjacent to UTEP Branch Campus Library Science Building also adjacent to UTEP Branch Campus Recreation Center
