Weslaco, Texas is home to the world’s most extensive ammunition industry. The city has a history dating back to the early 1800s, when there was an ample supply of lead and other ammo available in this area. Ammunition continues to play an important role in our culture and economy today and Weslaco remains one of the leading production centers for ammunition in the United States. The origins of the ammunition industry can be traced back to 1836, when General Sam Houston discovered large caches of lead and other munitions waiting to be exported from Mexico. This discovery led to the development of what would become the largest ammunition manufacturing center in America. In 1849, two years after Houston’s death, his son Colonel James Hogg purchased land northeast of Austin on which he built a complex known as “Hogg’s Factory.” The factory produced cannons, muskets, artillery pieces, rifles and pistols for use by American forces during the Mexican-American War. It also manufactured goods for Spanish forces fighting against American allies. In 1907, Colonel John Dickey donated land near Weslaco for a new munitions plant known as Dickey Arsenal. The plant began producing shells and bullets at this location until it was closed its doors in 1969 due to environmental concerns caused by nearby oil refineries. Since then, Weslaco has undergone several renovations that have brought much needed updated technology into local businesses within their cultural district known as “the Arts District.” Today there are multiple businesses located within walking distance of each other that offer services such as catering/dining/entertainment/photography/toys/firearms etc., making it easy for visitors to get involved with local commerce while enjoying some good old fashioned Texan hospitality!

The company’s first rifle was created with two barrels that were joined together at the muzzle. The rifle had an effective range of 50-yards. In 1887, the company changed its name to Winchester Arms Corporation and began producing rifles with four barrels that were join together at the muzzle. These rifles had an effective range of 150-yards.
Weslaco, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 3,923 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Brazos River and is bordered by League City to the north and Midland to the east. The community was founded in 1881 by John A. Weslaco as a small post office known as "Wesley". In 1902, Wesley changed its name to "Weslaco", after then-Governor Worth Weslaco. In 1916, the United States Postal Service moved Weslaco from Hudspeth County to Midland County because of decreased postal service demand in that county. In 1940, when Midland became an Independent State, Weslaco transferred from Hudspeth County back into Midland County. The original shopping center which stands today was built in 1951 by J.B. Holmes and it served as a commercial center for many years until it was destroyed by fire in 1984. It has been rebuilt multiple times and currently houses two churches and a movie theater which are all used for events such as pow wows and graduation ceremonies. The current shopping mall opened on November 17th, 1997 with a pedestrian walkway between it and First Baptist Church which had been owned by Northrop Grumman before it was purchased by Hobby Lobby Stores Incorporated in 2001. That same year saw the opening of Mesquite Mall which replaced Wescoco Shopping Center which had closed down since 1995 due to lack of use or profitability due to changes within Mega Outlet Centers Incorporated (Hobby Lobby) itself throughout much of 2002-2003

During World War I ammunition played an important role in ground warfare due to its ability to kill large numbers of enemy soldiers quickly and effectively without prior bombardment or other formative actions taken by opposing forces. Ammunition was also instrumental in naval warfare when battles took place off shore where artillery could not be employed due to range limitations or weather conditions). Weslaco is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It was founded by German immigrants in 1847 and incorporated as a city in 1903. Weslaco is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Weslaco were Gottlieb and Johann Gottlieb Weissenborn who arrived on a ship from Hamburg, Germany on November 20, 1847. They had three children: Anna (1848-1914), Wilhelm (1850-1927) and Mathilde (1853-1937). The first post office was established at Weslaco on March 12, 1849. In 1893, the city was made an annex to Round Rock and it has been an independent municipality ever since. The current mayor is Jerry Patterson with term expiring in December 2020. The City Council meets monthly with the Mayor presiding over meetings which are open to the public for viewing. City Hall is located off US Highway 281 just east of I-35E exit 138B near mile marker 576/US Highway 281K south of town limits
