Webster, Texas is a small town located in the Trinity Valley region of the state of Texas. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Webster is named after John Webster, an American statesman who served as U.S. secretary of state from 1827 to 1830 and as a delegate to the Republic of Texas in 1836. The first settler in what is now Webster was James Hogg, who arrived in 1824 from Edinburgh, Scotland. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking Clear Fork Creek and named his settlementafter himself, Webbstown. By 1830, Hogg had moved his family to what is now eastern Travis County and platted what would become Webster on May 15, 1830 (no date given). The post office called it Webbstown until 1860 when it changed its name to Webster because one Samuel J apostleWebster donated land for the town site (now eastbound I-35W). A second post office operated at Webster from 1865-1867; it was renamed Round Rock after Congressman Robert R Round Rock (1851-1925) of San Antonio and later chairman of The National Republican Convention (1920), which nominated Teddy Roosevelt for president that year. In 1876, two local businessmen purchased 171 acres south of present day I-35W and began developing what became known as "the Domain." This included much current downtown Webstertown as well as six small villages: Dutch Elm Village (later renamed Spellman), Springdale Gardens, Prairie View A&M University Campus Village II., White Sands Rancho Santa Fe de Albuquerque Villa Rica School District No./Village No., and Black Mesa Rancho Santa Fe de Albuquerque Villa Rica School District No./Village No.. After years of hard work by these gentlemen - most notably George W Payne - development eventually came about with help from $5 million worth federal stimulus money allocated through President Barack Obama's America Now! initiative during his first term in office. Today there are more than 1,000 businesses based in downtown Webstertown alone including law firms Chase Manhattan Bank and IBM; health care providers Fresenius KGaA & Co., Allstate Insurance Company Americas Inc., UPS Store & delivery service StarLink Airlines ; retail stores Macy's Department Store & anchor tenant Sears Tower ; restaurants Five Guys Burgers & Fries , Longhorn Steakhouse , Alice's Restaurant , Mother Teresa's Cafe . In addition to its many commercial enterprises downtown, Webster has also begun redeveloping several older neighborhoods including Dutch Elm Village into an upscale neighborhood shopping center featuring high end boutiques; Springdale Gardens into an active community with sports teams that compete in various leagues such as soccer/football/baseball; Prairie View A&M University Campus Village II into a vibrant college town with dining options including cafeterias student run kitchens popular among students for socializing before or after classes; White Sands Rancho Santa Fe de Albuquerque Villa Rica School District No./Village No.– home to five schools within one school district – into a working class township focused on agriculture; Black Mesa Rancho SantaFe de Albuquerque Villa Rica School District No./village no.– home to four schools within one school district – into an era long past when townships were primarily agricultural ranchos like this one – becoming instead Hispanic enclave communities characterized by public housing developments complete with supermarkets

Webb County was named for General John Webb, an American Revolutionary War officer and a delegate to the Continental Congress. In 1836, the county seat moved from Waco to Webster because of the growing population in that town. The influx of settlers resulted in many changes in the area, including a large increase in ranching and agriculture. One of the most important aspects of Webb County’s history is its relationship with neighboring Tarrant County. From its earliest days, Webb County has been intertwined with Tarrant County because it was part of the Texas Republic. The border between these two counties was never fully defined, and trade and communication took place between both groups through their interpreters. As time passed, however, Webb County began to lose ties with Tarrant County as more residents migrated to other parts of Texas. Today, there are still few physical reminders of this connection – only one small cemetery remains within Webb County proper and it is not used anymore.
In 1867, Webster was founded by Austin businessmen John L. Thornton and James K. Polk. The city's first post office opened in 1870, and it became the county seat of Travis County in 1876. In 1916, the city merged with the larger town of Georgetown to form a new municipality. The merger was dissolved in 1922 when Webster seceded from Travis County.
