In addition, Webster offers excellent shopping opportunities including several large department stores as well as many smaller businesses that have thrived because they are located close to downtown or Interstate 10 (the primary arterial road through town).

The area that is now Webster, Texas was first settled by the Wichita people in the late 1800s. The area became a part of the Mexican Republic after Texas seceded from Mexico in 1836. In 1845, the United States acquired land in what is now Webster County from Mexico and organized it as part of Grant County. The name Webster comes from one of the early settlers, Hiram Webster.
