Webster is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Webster was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1836 and named for General John Webster who fought in the Mexican–American War. The town became an agricultural center after being developed on irrigated land east of the Rio Grande River. In 1960, Webster was chosen to be the seat of government for newly created Hudspeth County and it remains its official seat today.

In 1873, a company called the Colt revolver company was founded in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt revolvers were made with a metal frame and a black powder cartridge. The guns were known for their accuracy and reliability. In 1911, the Colt revolver company merged with Remington Arms Company to create the current Remington rifle and shotgun companies.
In 1836, Webster was founded by James H. Webster in what is now the city of Dallas. The town had been established as a trading post on the Red River near present-day Fort Worth. In 1837, the Republic of Texas was founded and Webster became its capital. In 1840, after Texas attained statehood, Webster was designated as its second capital. Webster grew rapidly during the 19th century and reached a peak population of over 25,000 in 1840. However, due to numerous factors including economic depression and persistent Anglo-American racism, Webster's population declined by half by 1860. By 1870, only 810 residents remained in the town limits alone; most of the original population had died or moved away during that period of decline. Despite this setback, however, Webster continued to grow through various incorporations until it became an incorporated city on December 16th of that year with a total population of 3,200 people. It remains one of the largest cities in Texas today with a current population exceeding 10,000 residents! The first white settler in what is now Dallas was James H., who arrived from Virginia in 1828 and built a log cabin on what is now White Rock Creek Road adjacent to today's Trinity University campus (nowriverfront park). He later purchased 640 acres (26 km²) east of White Rock Creek Road for $100 per acre ($2/acre), becoming one of the earliest settlers in what would becomeDallas! James H.'s wife Fannie also settled down hereabouts and raised four children – three boys and one girl – before she passed away circa 1830 at age 38 years old while living at her husband's home near White Rock Creek Road & I-35W (now Park LaneDrive). Upon their deaths both families bequeathed their land to Dallas County for future development! It wasn't long before other pioneers followed James H.'s lead and began arriving into this new area which included parts of what are now Arlington Heights & Richardson counties - all within today’s City Limits boundary! A group led by John NeelyBargain discovered oil shale underneath Black Mesa just north-east of downtown Dallas on July 6th OF 1859 while exploring for mineral rights at Big Muddy Ranch northeast thereof; following their discovery several others located additional oil fields throughout North Central Texas between Red Hill & Westlake Hills - helping spur TX Oil Company formation therein!!!Shortly thereafter construction commenced on Ft Worth Light House which served as prototype for many subsequent lighthouse construction efforts throughout TX!!! soon thereafter...the Townsite Of Dallas BecameAn Incorporated City On December 16TH OF 1868 With A TOTAL POPULATION OF 3200 PEOPLE
The Webster community was founded in 1881, when the railroad built a line from Lubbock to Webster. The town grew rapidly, and by 1907 it had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1916 the City of Webster voting body passed an ordinance granting city rights to the village of Webster, which would become its primary governing body. The first mayor and aldermen were appointed by the city council.
