Weatherford is a small town located in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original settlers in Weatherford were Confederate soldiers who fought in the American Civil War. Today, many of the residents are veterans or retirees who have relocated to Weatherford from other parts of Texas during the past decade. The name "Weatherford" comes from an early settler named William Weatherford and his wife Hannah. They came to this area from Missouri in 1851 and started a trading post called "Weatherford on the Brazos." In 1859, they founded a new town here and named it after their father-in-law, General Andrew Jackson Butler Weatherford. From its beginnings until about 1900, Weatherford had no school system; citizens learned to read and write by learning how to do odd jobs such as farming or building houses. However, starting in 1900 until World War II there was an educational program which allowed students from rural areas in Hidalgo County to attend local schools while still living close by home. After World War II there was also a large military base here which resulted in increased enrollment at local schools because servicemen brought their families with them when they left for military service overseas. In 1970, Hurricane Tejas caused extensive damage to portions of Hidalgo County including much of Weatherford; however some buildings did not go up due to subsidence following the storm's landfall but continued existing below ground because water infiltration was limited compared with what would happen if walls had been built around them like most townsfolk had predicted would happen based on data from prior hurricanes). Early restoration work began immediately following Tejas with help from state troopers and volunteers known as The Donners Brigade (named for Governor George Parnell Donner). By late 1971 approximately 95% of all damagehad been repaired within six months using techniques learned during that earlier hurricane season including use of hydraulic fracturing( fracking) which opened up large shale oil reservoirs near Temple Oil Field within only twenty miles (32 kilometers) of where Main Street meets Highway 160A – now known as Texarkana Boulevard & Texarkana Parkway

Roosevelt approved the creation of Johnson County to provide more local government services for residents of rural areas within its boundaries. Beginning around 1840, farmers from what is now Weatherford began settling down around what is now downtown; some built homes while others collected logs to build cabins or helped sawyers cut lumber into boards for buildings. By 1860 there were over fifty families living hereabouts; by 1870 that number had swollen to over one hundred people using variousLogging camps along Lamar Creek where timber could be collected during winter months for building purposes such as churches and schools
The town of Weatherford, Texas was founded by settlers in 1848. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Arkansas River and its connection to the railroads. By 1907, Weatherford had a population of around 2,500 people. In 1951, the town became an independent city.
