Weatherford is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Weatherford is named after William Weatherford, an early settler. The first known mention of Weatherford was in 1836 when Joshua Wiley recorded it as "Waterville". In 1845, John Hogg recorded it as "Waterer Ford". In 1876, Weatherford was again mentioned when Wm. Jourdan wrote about a post office called "Weatherfords" on the Canadian River. In 1907, weather data were collected from stations around the area and grid map development began for Johnson County. On March 3, 1909, Weatherford received its municipal charter and became a city with a population of 710 residents. According to the 2010 census count,[1] there are 2,914 people living in Weatherford.
