Waxahachie, Texas is home to one of the oldest and most well-known companies in the binocular industry, The Herschel Company. Founded by Cyrus Herschel in 1839, The Herschel Company has been manufacturing high quality binoculars for over 125 years. The company wasoriginally known as The Boston Manufacturing Company. In 1872, The Boston Manufacturing Company merged with another company, The Harris and Hopkins Corporation. This merger created the first modern binocular company in America. From this point onward, The HerschelCompany would be known simply as “The Herschel Company”. In 1912, a new factory was built on State Highway 6 in Waxahachie. This new factory produced 100% American madebinoculars until it closed its doors in 1984. Today, the Waxahachie Factory Complex still contains a variety of products that are manufactured by the HerschellCompany including telescopes and microscopes!

One such store that is especially popular in this community is Walmart which has been here since 1972.
