Waxahachie is a small town in Texas, located about 25 miles south of Dallas. The population was 2,851 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Waxahachie was founded in 1872 by John J. McLaughlin and Phebe Wright as a small agricultural community on the banks of the Trinity River. The name comes from a Shawnee word meaning “place where corn is found” because it had been discovered there growing corn during the mid-19th century. In 1892, McLaughlin donated land to become an incorporated town, which became known as Waxahachie after his family name. The first post office opened in 1896 and was called Wacoalachieme before becoming Waxahachie City in 1907. In 1912, James Fenton purchased 640 acres (2 km²) east of Waxahachie and built the first large cotton gin on this property – also known as Fenton's Farm until 1922 when it was renamed McLaughlin-Fenton Cotton Gin after John J. McLaughlin Jr., one of its founders and its first mayor from 1901 to 1902 (the other founder being Phebe Wright). The city started development on what would become downtown along Interstate 45 in 1915 with the construction of a dam impounding Trinity River for power generation; these developments led to increased growth for Waxahachie due to both its easy access to I45 and its proximity to major industrial areas such as Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport nearby. You can find many historical buildings still standing today within walking distance of downtown including: Wacoalachieme Post Office (1896), McLaughlin-Fenton Cotton Gin (1922), State Capitol Annex Building (1963), First Christian Church (1912), Texas School Book Depository Library (1937), Bankers Life Insurance Company Administration Building (1964) downtown business district between McKinney Street westward down Elm Street northward across Elm Street into Old Main Square then northeast up Main Street into High School Square until you reach Memorial Drive eastward into Arlington Heights off I-10 just past Springtown Road then northeast out of Arlington Heights onto Garland Parkway all without driving! After World War II, most manufacturing activities shifted away from Texas towards plants outside the state due to low oil prices that continued through most of the 1970s but resumed duringomics beginning in 1979 under President Jimmy Carter with production increasing again throughout much of 1980s although gradually decreasing since 2000
Waxahachie, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and has a population of around 95,000 people. The town was founded in 1879 by James A. Waxahachie and his wife Sarah Ann Chambers as a small farming community on the banks of the Comanche River. In 1903, Waxahachie was renamed after General Antonio López de Santa Anna, who had served as President of Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. The town became an important center for cattle ranching and cotton production in the region until the early 21st century.
