Watauga is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settlers in Watauga were families that arrived fromNorth Carolina in 1836. They started a Methodist church and the first school in Watauga was built in 1840. In 1851, the community had a post office and two stores. A sawmill was built in 1853 and a train stop was established on the depot square in 1865. In 1870, a gristmill, cotton gin, and flour mill were built along with another school which served Watauga until 1971 when it closed because of lack of students. This happened as part of an overall trend where schools throughout Williamson County closed between 1970 and 1980 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Rick Perry's administration; later that decade, all but one high school (Barton High School) closed across Williamson County as well. In 1978, Watauga annexed what is now portions of neighboring Pflugerville into its boundaries The economy of Watauga has been largely agricultural since its inception with some manufacturing facilities being located nearby such as Smith's Sawmills from 1961 to 1984 before closing down due to heavy competition from other companies; however these have since reopened.

Watauga is a small town located in Cherokee County, Texas, just east of the Oklahoma border. The population was 1,912 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The town was founded by Methodists in 1853 as a mission station for their Unitarian movement. In 1892, Watauga became an independent community and voted to become a city. The city was annexed by Tulsa in 1907, but again voted to secede in 1912 after some local residents objected to being merged into what they saw as an all-black city. The secession failed and Watauga returned to its original status as a rural community within Tulsa City limits until it lost its charter in 1959 and reverted back to rural status when Tulsa granted it full municipal rights again that same year. In 1954, construction began on the Watauga Dam which forms the eastern edge of present-day Watauga. The dam created Lake Eriecreek which now serves as the town's water supply and also supported agricultural operations around the lake until it closed down in 1968 due to problems with lead poisoning from old farming practices. Today only traces of these operations remain: land surround Railroad Road near where railroad tracks once crossed over creeks; remnants of demolished farm buildings can be found along North Main Street; and foundations for several homes are still visible on Old South Water Street near where Creek Drive crosses over from Watonga Cemetery intowatonga Township
