Watauga, Texas is home to the first optical store in the area. Opened in 1892 by Dr. J.B. Nichols and his wife, Mrs. Nichols, this store was a pioneer in the industry and was later renamed The Optical Company of Watauga. The company continued to grow and become one of the leading purveyors of optical products throughout Southwest Texas until it went out of business in 1967.
Watauga is a small town in eastern Texas, located on the banks of the Trinity River. The population was 5,874 at the 2010 census. Watauga is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. It is one of twenty-one municipalities in Tarrant County, and lies about halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth. The community was founded in 1871 by Scotsmen who had emigrated to Texas from Dunfermline, Scotland. By 1881, Watauga had a post office and three stores. The first school was built in 1883 and was attended by students from nearby Decatur and Oak Cliff. In 1886, a canal was built through the village to provide water for agriculture purposes; at that time, it was the only means of irrigation available in central Texas. A cotton gin and two distilleries were constructed in Watauga beginning around 1905; these facilities remain extant today as part of the Humble Cotton Mill Museum Complex (www.humblecottonmillmuseumcomplex.com). crops such as corn, sorghum, soybeans and wheat were grown until recently with little use of pesticides or herbicides; this has changed since agricultural practices began to be more mechanized than ever before throughout much of North America Commercial fishing operations became increasingly important during the early 21st century due to increased catches per unit effort off Texan coastlines including bottom trawlers operating out of Houston Bayou near Corpus Christi; however this commercial fishery has now largely been replaced by sportfishing activities motivated by recreational opportunities rather than economic value within specific limits set forth by government regulation

Watauga is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,381 at the 2010 census. It formed part of the Fort Worth area until 1868 when it became a separate municipality. Watauga is located on the north bank of the Trinity River and is bordered by Arlington to the east and north, Midlothian to the west, and Haskell to the south. The name "Watauga" comes from a Cherokee word meaning "place where there are large cottonwood trees." The first white settler in what is now Watauga County was John Seymour who arrived in 1811. He established himself along what is now US- 75 near present day Watonga Lake. In 1838, Captain James Hogg led a group of settlers across Texas into what is now Tarrant County as part of his effort to find new land for Texans after their state was admitted to Congress. When Captains Hogg and George Broughton discovered that they were unable to sell their discoveries anyhow they abandoned all hope of developing them and returned home. A year later they again attempted to invade what is now Tarrant County but this time without success due to strong Native American resistance. In 1869, following annexation by Fort Worth, Watauga became a separate municipality with its own government under Mayor Denton Walthall Smith Sr.. On July 10th 1912 Hurricane Dallas slammed into Texarkana destroying most of Fort Worth including Watauga and other nearby townsfolk making it one of the worst natural disasters in Texas history at that time. The town's residents have made efforts over recent years (2009-2013) to help restored much damage done during Hurricane Floyd which struck areas around downtown on August 29th 1999; restoration work began shortly after landfall as weather conditions improved In early 2014 plans were announced for an $8 million dollar project which would rebuild water mains throughout town as well as repairing streetlights, sidewalks and public buildings; construction will begin in late 2014 or early 2015 The original Sawmill Creek Methodist Church building still stands today within walking distance of most businesses in central Watauga!
Watauga was first settled in 1794 by John Patterson and his family. In 1828, Watauga County was created from portions of Robertson, Montgomery and Fayette Counties. The county seat was at Knoxville until 1876 when it moved to Oak Ridge.
