On November 7, 1871, Vidor was founded by a group of Texas entrepreneurs led by J.D. Haigh and W.H. Foard. The town quickly became a center for cattle ranching and farming, and its citizens developed a strong commercial presence in the area. In 1916, Vidor was incorporated as a city, and it continued to grow throughout the years until it reached its current size in 2008.
