Victoria, Texas is a small city located in the El Paso County seat. The population was 11,879 at the 2010 census. It is the second-smallest city in Texas after Amarillo. Victoria was founded in 1859 by Hernando de Soto, who named it for his deceased wife Victoria. This Act gave many Texans living overseas their citizenship back so they could return home to help rebuild their towns and villages during wartime. Victoria's role as a wartime community continued until 1946 when it lost its status as a city due to population growth rates above those needed for cityhood under state law at that time. In 1956, Victoria incorporated as a local government under State Statute 13-5-2 which granted it voting rights on issues affecting its residents; this also constitutedbthe first time any municipality in Williamson County had right to form part of both the State Senate and House of Representatives! Today Victoria continues to be one of America's most vibrant small towns with strong economic development potential thanks to its history as well as its proximity to Austin – home of some of the nation’s leading universities – major highways including I-10/Loop 610 East (which makes it easy for tourists visiting Victoria), large numbers of job opportunities available throughout Greater Austin through business parks located just outside city limits (e.g., Cedar Park),and ample infrastructure for Continued Growth!
