Victoria, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas that is located on the Gulf of Mexico near Corpus Christi. The population was 5,812 at the 2000 census and 6,564 as of the 2010 census. A variety of industries have since sprang up around Victoria including: shipbuilding during World War II; Offshore drilling following WWII until it peaked in the late 1970s when it started decline followed by an increase in Corpus Christi activity starting around 1990-91 giving Victoria some competition; however, recent growth has seen much more retail development coming online with many restaurants now open 24/7 along with several high end hotels such as Holiday Inn Express Texas Beach Resort & Spa which opened in early 2018 just outside of town limits adjacent to RAF Airfield #4 used by United Airlines flying out of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Terminal 3 - making it one of only 2 locations withinCorpus Christi County that offer airport services directly to guests arriving or departing from Dallas/Fort Worth international airports (the other being Midway Airport). Victoria is located at US 90 eastbound exit 923 between IH 35W & FM 1960 southbound exit 927 on FM 1960 about 8 miles southeast of Corpus Christi on Brazos Bayou

Victoria was founded in 1836 by Captain James Fenton as the first town in what is now Victoria County, Texas. The first store and post office were built in 1840. In 1849, a school was built and the first white settler, J. H. Bird, arrived in Victoria in 1850. In 1861, Victoria became the county seat of Victoria County and two years later a courthouse was erected on the present site of the courthouse annexe building on FM 620 West. In 1865, a mill was built on the river and it functioned until 1907 when it burned down. In 1902, an oil well was drilled east of Victoria and production began soon afterwards; this led to increased business for local entrepreneurs who started restaurants and stores along Railroad Avenue in downtown Victoria. By 1912 there were over 50 businesses operating along Railroad Avenue including 12 banks with total assets exceeding $100,000 The population of Victoria grew rapidly during World War I due to military activity near the community which resulted in an increase in job opportunities for locals After World War I ended (1918), there was little growthactivity until after World War II when new industry emerged such as agriculture Victoria experienced rapid population growth during the 1950s-1960s due to increased trade with Mexico City through Brownsville
