The first firearms were used in Victoria, Texas in 1836. The guns were made by the local blacksmiths and rifles were designed by Major John A. Hance. The first rifle was called the “Hance Rifle” and was used by Texans against Apache Indians. In 1865, Victoria became a county in Texas and the county courthouse was built on a hill overlooking downtown. The courthouse is now known as the Victoria County Courthouse Annex. On October 5, 1868, Captain George Armstrong of Company K, Seventh Regiment Texas Volunteer Infantry shot and killed General James Fenton during an attack on Fort Worth cavalry unit under Colonel Edward Pemberton. On December 8th of that year Captain Armstrong served with Company K at the Battle of San Jacinto which resulted in Mexican independence from Spain. In 1896, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Bigham of Company I Horse Artillery shot and killed Billy Caldwell while trying to stop him from robbing a train at Lubbock Junction Railroad Station. In 1898 Captain Isaac Newton successfully defended himself with his Colt revolver when he was cornered by four Mexicans while robbing goods at a store in Arlington Heights outside of Houston

The next step in development for gun sights came in 1864 when American Colonel John Brown invented what is now known as the Browning Rifle System (BRS). The BRS consisted of three parts: The Barrel Nut, The Ringset, and The Pistol Grip (Figure 1). These parts were designed so that when tightened down on the barrel it would create an obstruction between your eye and target (Figure 2). This invention made it possible for soldiers on battlefields all over America to fire accurately with their rifles without having to worry about aiming them manually
The first pistols with sights were designed by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. He designed the Browning Automatic Pistol, which had a reflex sight on an armrest that was adjustable to 30 degrees increments. The first combat weapons using sights were the French 7.65 mm Parabellum rifle and Belgian Model 1894 rifle. However, sights did not become common on firearms until the late 19th century when they were introduced into carbines and rifles.
Victoria was founded in 1836, and became a state in 1907. The city is named after the British queen Victoria, who was the first British monarch to visit Texas. In 1876, Victoria incorporated as a town, and in 1920 it became an independent city. Victoria is located on the east bank of the Brazos River, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of Austin and about 140 miles (225 kilometers) northeast of Dallas. It has a population of approximately 60,000 people. The city is home to several museums and art galleries, including the Texas Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Victoria Art Gallery. The main amusement park in town is called "The Park" and its centerpiece is the riverboat Riverside Galleon amusements complex. There are also several restaurants and bars in town.
In 1836, the Republic of Texas was founded and it became an American state in 1845. In 1861, Texas seceded from the United States to join the Confederacy. In 1865, Texas was annexed by the Mexican Empire and so its history goes with that too.
