Victoria, Texas is a city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas and the county seat of Victoria County. The population was 2,521 as of 2010. It lies on the banks of the Rio Grande River, approximately 22 miles (35 km) east-northeast of Ciudad Juárez and about 30 miles (48 km) west-southwest of Mexico City. The town site was first settled by Anglo-Irish immigrants in 1822. In 1846, General Antonio López de Santa Anna founded El Paso del Norte with the same name to serve as his provisional capital from Chihuahua during Mexico's war for independence from Spain. After Santa Anna's death in 1847, El Paso del Norte became Mexico City's provisional capital until it was again reoccupied by Americans in 1862 following the American Civil War. In 1876, Victoria was established as a county seat under Mexican Republic law when its territory was added to Tamaulipas. In 1888 it became part of Coahuila y Tejas after that state seceded from the United States. After Texas joined America on November 8, 1912, Victoria became its second county seat and remained so until 1914 when Edinburg took over as its sole county seat due to population growth within Tamaulipas County combined with an increase in immigration from both sides of the border after World War I which increased agricultural production in Culiacán and other parts of Baja California Sur; this led to calls for Edinburg to become another Victoria Countyseat but this proposal never materialized because there were not enough voters willing to switch their allegiance from Coahuila y Tejas to Victoria County just yet.

Victoria, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1876 by theettlement of families from Virginia and North Carolina. The Victoria cotton gin still operates as a historic fabric mill historical landmark. The flour produced here is exported to countries such as England and Italy. In 1907, the Victoria post office was established and continued serving until it closed in 1951. From 1865 until its incorporation into Hudspeth County on November 3, 1876 as part of the general population of Hudspeth County (later Austin), Victoria lay within what is now Travis County. That county was created from parts of Bastrop County on July 24, 1871 when Bastrop became an independent municipality under the Texas Constitution. On December 15 of that year – one day after Victoria's incorporation – Judge Samuel Denton pronounced preliminary effects upon the community's organization and designated its plat for publication; notice having been given to all who would be interested therein that same day by George Aiken who had organized the first schoolhouse in our vicinity during those early years of our new township’s existence... By February 6th next preceding there were over fifty residents within our limits... We are indebted to Mr. Denton for this early recognition and encouragement which have led us through many vicissitudes since then." Victoria experienced significant growth beginning with its incorporation into Hudspeth County - both due to immigrants coming to find work in agriculture or other professions but also because most Texans then lived east of Austin in Bastrop or Williamson counties where land could be bought cheaply and development possible[.] Even so, much progress had yet to be made before World War I destroyed most businesses along with up-to-date transportation systems combined with Dust Bowl conditions throughout much of southern Texas meaning grain prices doubled between 1914-1918[.] This caused farmers like David Ladd(1865-1943)and his family(born c1850)to sell their land near San Marcos for $40 an acre just prior to statehood thinking they might not see it again until after 1920 when oil production increased greatly followed by pricing hikes . However they were proven wrong when prices stabilized around $2/barrel following World War II while production decreased due mainly to technological advances[.] In 1922 Ladd partnered with JB Hufnagel(1863-1945)to purchase 640 acres northwest of town along FM 1960 for 25 cents an acre which grew into what is now West Mesa Shopping Center located off US 290 about two miles west off IH 35W about 8 miles south east off Loop 610 concurrent with FM 1960A creating what are today known as "Ladd Ranch" parcels located immediately north & northeast (west side)of Loop 610 Continuing this trend property values went up rapidly becoming one reason why more than 4500 people currently call Victoria their home brewery[.] When Prohibition ended following World War II Victorians did not lose any opportunity for business however - starting breweries such as Lone Star Brewing Company began operations shortly thereafter[] giving rise too many breweries (approximately 1850 at present)[.] Today there are nearly 230 breweries operating across TX including 30 owned by women making Victoria one oftexas' top beer destinations[] [1].
Victoria, Texas was founded on November 25, 1836 by the citizens of Fort Worth. It was named in honor of Queen Victoria of England. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the crossroads of two important routes, the Santa Fe Trail and the Mexican-American Warpath. Victoria quickly became a center for trade and commerce. In 1849, Victoria adopted a new charter which granted it incorporation as a city. The city experienced significant growth during the late 19th century due to its strategic location and access to resources such as oilfields and natural gas fields. The population reached 100,000 by 1900 and peaked at over 200,000 in 1910. However, World War I (1914-1918) caused extensive damage to the cityscape and economy; Victoria’s population decreased from 200,000 to under 50,000 between 1914 and 1918. After World War I ended,Victoria struggled through several economic cycles characterized by low population growth and high joblessness rates. In 1930,Victoria changed its name to Austin after then Governor John Connally pronounced it “austin” rather than “virginia” because he felt that Austin would be more successful in attracting businesses and residents away from Victoria proper
