The Vernon Manufacturing Company produced cotton ginners and general merchandise until 1967 when it merged with Sears Roebuck & Co., becoming Sears Holdings Corporation. Today, while many of its products have been discontinued or replaced by competitors (e.g., Kenmore ovens), much of what Sears Holdings Corporation produces still finds use throughout the world due to its vast stores empire and diverse product line including home improvement, clothing and appliance sales as well as real estate development). Vernon also has a small but tightly knit community spirit that can often be seen during local events such as Fourth of July parades or Volunteer Fire Department Summits which celebrate countywide volunteerism (one example being raising money for charity at an event held at Lake Texoma). For example, when oil production shifted away from wells near Wichita Falls into eastern Texas during the late 1920s, Vernon quickly became one of the main centers for oil production in that area thanks largely to its tight infrastructure capabilities and strategic location on Highway 6A . In addition, when industry began moving out of Wichita Falls during the 1970s – leaving only agriculture remaining – Vernon enjoyed some stability until recently when joblessness rates have begun increasing among young adults experiencing difficulty finding work outside their home state . Despite these challenges posed by today’s economy (and those faced by many towns across America), Vernon remains an economically vibrant community with strong ties connecting individuals within its local government system .
Vernon, Texas was founded in 1879 by Willard Vernon and his wife, Eliza. The town grew rapidly after the construction of the Midland Railroad through the area. In 1907, Vernon became a city and was named in honor of Vernon's grandfather, George Washington Vernon.
