Uvalde, Texas is a city inDonnell County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,028 at the 2010 census. It lies on the San Antonio River and is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Uvalde also includes portions of Midland and Angelina counties. The first settler in what is now Uvalde was James White in 1836. In 1876, John Pemberton founded the town of Midland which became one of the largest towns in Texas when it grew out of ranching operations near present-day Midland and Angelina Counties. In 1912, oil production began to grow in Republican Hill Country northwest of Uvalde and townspeople decided to build a refinery there to process crude oil from that area for local use or export. Some notable landmarks located within Downtown Uvalde include: The old courthouse building which houses City Hall; the First Baptist Church which was built between 1852 and 1860; the Lamar Hotel which opened in 1929; UTEP’s main campus (the original University Station) located just north of Main Street on what once was UTEP’s football field; Medina Park off US Highway 281 east of IH 20 just south of Interstate 35 South; Stinson Elementary School across US Highway 281 northeast from Interstate 35 South where students attend school while they shop at nearby Walmart; Pioneer Hi-Tech High School across US Highway 281 east from IH 20 also known locally as "Pioneer" High School where students learn computer science/ coding/ web design/development etc.; Black Mesa Golf Course off FM 1960 about 6 miles southeast of Downtown Uvaldi on HWY 27B; Gurrah Apache Indian Reservation - home to manyanchesiros (Apache Native Americans) who roam freely among their ancestral lands - about 10 miles northwest of Downtown Uvaldi on FM 780

Uvalde and named for their father, William Villereux Uvalde. The first post office in Uvalde was established in 1875. In 1896, the community of Huntsville was founded by J.C. Uvalde and Lillie Akins as part of a larger land purchase from the Haskell brothers. Huntsville became an incorporated municipality on December 2, 1907; it had a population of 522 when it did so. On November 15, 1912, the town of Paducah merged with Uvalde to form one large city with a population of 614 residents; Paducah would later become its own independent municipality on January 1, 2019.
