Uvalde, Texas is a town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Uvalde's municipal government is organized into four wards: Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. The townsite of present-day Uvalde was first settled by Anglo Americans in 1839 as a result of the Mexican War and its aftermath. In 1845, Uvalde was incorporated as a town under the name "Atchison." The post office called itself "Uvalde" from 1847 to 1861; it changed to "Topeka" in 1865 and to "Santa Fe" in 1889. In 1902, an oil well were sunk near present-day Uvalde that became one of the earliest predictors of global warming. This well has been cited as one reason why oil production increased significantly after World War I and led to development around town water supplies essential for agriculture (and also for industry). Today much of what makes up downtown Uvalde owes its growth to this industry including Johnnie B Deck's grocery store which opened its doors in 1922 on Main Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets As with other communities around the country during this time period emerging out of cotton plantations through industrialization - there was growth potential here too if we only had paid attention! Heading west on Technology Road you come across Hudgins Land & Farming Company who operated a Cottonseed Mill until their mill burned down on October 6th 1907 within minutes of opening! Thereafter just about everything went boom due to cheap oil prices which kept going up until about 1971 when they started crashing followed by stagflation leading to high inflation rates & political instability throughout much of that decade before finally dying off again culminating with Hurricane Katrina hitting LA in 2005 - good thing FOR THE COMMUNITY now we have rekindled some new life energy thanks largely to Proctor Exploration who pulled through barely missed bankruptcy back then but alas lost all their land during& after Katrina so that’s another story altogether... 😕 . . . And like most tales full of heartache & hope it ends with something beautiful :)

Uvalde, Texas is the seat of government for Hall County and part of Hudspeth County. The population was estimated to be over 153,000 in 2010. The area that would become Uvalde was first settled by the Arapaho and Apache Native Americans in the 18th century. In 1835, Mexican settlers arrived in what is now Uvalde after they were expelled from California. The town was named after José Antonio Uvalde, a military general who fought in Mexico's War of Independence. In 1836, violence erupted between local ranchers and Mexican settlers over cattle grazing rights near what is now downtown Uvalde. This led to the Battle of Adobe Walls, which ended with aMexican victory. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General John Sibley attacked several Confederate army encampments at Camp Bowie northeast of today's downtown Uvaldo. After days of fighting including an attack on a Union supply train that resulted in five dead and twenty-five wounded soldiers, Confederate General Braxton Bragg ordered his troops to withdraw into Mexico City before he could be captured or killed by Union forces. Unknown to Bragg or his commanders at the time, Confederate Lieutenant Colonel James Boggs had already crossed the border into Mexico and infiltrated Confederate ranks as part of a daring plan called "the Raid on Santa Fe". On November 15th 1861 Boggs ambushed three Union outposts northwest of present day downtown Uvalde without orders from either side; resulting in heavy losses for both sides with only two men remaining injured when hostilities ended less than one hour later Aftermath: According to oral histories gathered during mining operations conducted along creek beds north & east of Downtown #uvaldes (1885-present), approximately 455 people died as a result of silver mining accidents & other causes between 1886 & 1930 (estimated). This number does not include those killed as a result of disease contracted while workingin these areas)
