The town of Uvalde was founded by Mormons in 1879 as part of the Salt Lake City Mormon colony. The first post office in Uvalde was established in 1880. A railroad depot and several businesses were built near the original site of the present-day city before it Newtown Square development took over most of that land around 1912. The early days of Amarillo followed a similar pattern; settlers arrived and began to build log homes while they awaited word from Nauvoo (now Chicago) about whether or not they could commute there for workdays and Sundays. When rail service arrived in Amarillo in 1907, many farmers decided to move their operations to the new location rather than wait for word back home about where their fields would be next year. Although there are references to cattle drives crossing through what is now Uvalde Creek during this time period (documented as far back as 1785), it is unclear when or how these events actually occurred. It’s also possible that some early pioneers simply used up all available water supplies before reaching civilization—or simply didn’t make it back alive after crossing into Mexico! Whatever happened, within 10 years of settlement ranching had become an established industry hereabouts with today’s largest concentration of cattle operations east of Wichita Falls airport! In 1913 an oil well was drilled just northeast of town on what is nowowned by ExxonMobil Corporation which has greatly increased production since then! In 1941 Sherman Brothers Well Drilling Company drilled another well north-east across from town off FM 727 on what is now owned by Pembina Pipeline Company bringing gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing right into our backyard!!! This has really led to growth here over the last few decades with so much activity taking place right under our feet……

Uvalde, Texas is a town in County Seat of Hudspeth, Texas, United States. The population was 2,811 as of the 2010 census. Uvalde was founded on November 16, 1849 by John Hance and his wife Phebe Patton Hance with the intent to build a new settlement on the banks of the Colorado River. The original plat for Uvalde was filed on February 14, 1850. The town's first post office opened in December 1850 and served until July 1861 when it moved to Fort Griffin. On May 8, 1861 Uvalde became the county seat of Hudspeth County after entering into an agreement with Lubbock. The town's first store and sawmill were built in 1852 by James Waddell and operated until 1854 when they were replaced by a grist mill which continued operation until 1907. In 1857 Phebe Patton Hance purchased title to 5 acres (2 ha) east of town site from David French for $5 per acre ($100/km²). In 1860 she donated another 3 acres (1 ha) north of her original donation to help fund a school that would be built in that location. A total of 10 acres (4 ha) was donated which would become the current downtown square today. In 1865 Phebe Patton Hance sold 1/3 interest in her property east of town site to J.W Caldwell for $800 cash plus securities worth $10,000 at issue at that time. That same year Uvalde annexed an unincorporated community located south-west of town - what is now known as City Park - from Denton County under an agreement ratified by both governments on November 4th arbitration following a citizens' meeting held at Union Hall two days earlier. The annexation created what is now called "City Park" within Uvaldi boundaries - making it one entity among many surrounding municipalities formed during Hudspeth COUNTY's incorporation process over the years including Temple University Heights enclave northeast of present day downtown; White Sands Village westward along I-30; Brazoria Heights southeast off FM 620 between Hearst Ranch and Sam Rayburn Ranch holdings near present day San Antonio; East Side or Black Mesa northwest off US 281 between US 281 & FM 925; Highlands east off US 281 just outside present day Uvaldi limits today; Neches Valley east off US 287 just outside present day Uvaldi limits today forming what are collectively known as "Neches Hills". According to 2006 estimates uvdale had a population density greater than any other municipality within Hudspeth County without city status except Temple University Heights enclave northeast of present day downtown where its population density exceedes 100 people per acre as well as Brazoria Heights southeast off FM 620 between Hearst Ranch and Sam Rayburn Ranch holdings near present day San Antonio also exceeding 100 people per acre while Highlands east off US 281 just outside present day Uvaldi limits today has a population density greater than any other municipality within reach without city status
Uvalde was founded on November 5, 1847 by James W. Uvalde and his brother John Uvalde. The town was named in honor of General Sam Houston, who had given the first land grant to the town. The first post office opened in 1851, and the first store opened in 1854. In 1861, Confederate troops burned down the courthouse and most of the town center before fleeing back across the Rio Grande. Uvalde re-established itself as a safe haven for Texans fleeing south during the Civil War. The population increased rapidly after Reconstruction began in 1865 and peaked at over 20,000 in 1880. However, rapid population growth led tourban sprawl and social unrest; by 1910, only 10 percent of Uvalde remained rural. In 1916, local officials approved Plans for a large new city to be built east of downtown; however, construction never started due to financial difficulties. By 1930, only 2 percent of Uvalde remain rural while 50 percent is urbanized; today only 10 percent of the population remains rural with most living within city limits
