Uvalde, Texas is a small town located in Medina County, Texas. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. Uvalde is the county seat and largest city of Medina County. It lies on the banks of the Colorado River. The first European to visit Uvalde was José de la Cruz y Costilla in 1690. In 1836, John Hogg purchased land in what is now Uvalde from Juan Bautista de Anza for $1,000. Hogg named his new land "Hidalgo" after Mexican general Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla who fought against American forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). In 1881, Eduardo Vasquez organized a cotton plantation here and called it "Eduardo Vasquez." The name changed to Uvalde in 1907 when Arapaho Indian Chief Manuelito moved here from his home near Midland City, Texas to take up permanent residence. In 1909 many people living in Midland City came over to start their own businesses around what is now First National Bank of Midland City Plaza and Mercantile Square. This area became known as Main Street because all of these businesses were clustered together on one block until about 1940 when they were moved to their present locations around First National Bank Park since that bank had its original location across Commerce Boulevard from Main Street. The post office at 307 SMain St opened on October 12th 1840 with six employees under public subscription by John Dayhoff Sr., an early settler and member of the Santa Rita Band of Missionaries who founded San Antonio Missions District No. 8 south of modern day San Antonio TX along side Franciscan friars such as Father José Altamirano and Father Francisco Javier Lopez de Zumaya which included most or all present day El Paso TX including much of today's Ciudad Juárez Mexico while also touching portions or all present day Las Cruces NM before eventually being closed due to financial difficulties associated with mail delivery by horseback riders for settlers living off ranchlands surrounding mission properties only twenty miles distant primarily composed mostly/ entirety Pima Apache Indian Reservation considered part time US Army Military Post following Mexican Insurrection starting December 20th 1846 while Ft Sam Houston was still open & El Paso Mission continued operations without any military activity until January 2nd 1847 when Mexican Army occupied & Occupied Mission which resulted in closure followed by transfer of ownership back toFather José Altamirano effective February 15th 1847 not long after General Antonio López Adobe laid claim to same title claiming full title prior thereto) - main street running east-west approximately half way between corner store fronts just inside Loop 610 (El Paso) exits next left hand turn onto South Main Street thenceforth main street runs northwest/southeast parallel with oil well workings adjoining Railroad tracks although some residents continue routing gridiron playing fields & churches on opposite sides eg Old Military Cemetery lot nearest edge opposite Loop 610 Airport - old town square nearly center surrounded by high school buildings housing both public schools (& dental cemetaries for Native Americans), plus privately Owned Housing developments including Country Club Estates & several other large homes directly across busy intersection from current Walmart Supercenter built adjacent to IHOP restaurant closed down circa 2009 adjacentEl Paso’s Most Famous Mall circa 1970 when Interstate 10 was constructed bypassing downtown via this site

Uvalde, Texas is located in Hudspeth County. It was founded in 1836 and named for General David Hogg Uvalde who served in the Mexican-American War. The town was platted in 1837 and became a stop on the Santa Fe Railroad. It was first called Pecos, but changed to Uvalde because of its similarity to Spanish words meaning "vale" or "hill." In 1880, Uvalde became the seat of government for Hudspeth County when it was created from part of Bastrop County.
