Uvalde, Texas is a city in San Antonio County, Texas. The population was 87,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of San Antonio County. Uvalde was founded by Spanish colonists in 1827 and has been the site of various wars and battles since then. The city proper is only about 2 square miles (5 km2). The first European settlement in what is now San Antonio County was made by José Figueroa on December 14, 1827. In March 1845 United States Marines landed at Corpus Christi Bay to quell a slave revolt on Angel Island off the coast of Galveston Bay. After capturing one or more slaves they burned their quarters and set fire to four plantations near present-day downtown Uvalde for entertainment purposes only; these events were reported as part of an exposition called "The Burning ofAngel Island". Uvalde post office opened on April 20th, 1865 usingCaptain James Hogg's letterpress printing press from Greenville (South Carolina) after he had sent a shipment of presses for use at Fort Snelling (Minnesota). Captain Hogg moved his presses ashore on May 5th just east of Main Street where he had them installed next door to his old home which still stands today as the oldest building in downtown Uvaldo - it was built between 1860-1863 when Captain Hogg served as Postmaster for San Miguel de Allende Municipality (now El Paso County),Texas! It was during this time that Anheuser Busch Brewing Company began operations nearby along Main Street - starting out small with just six barrels per day but soon becoming one of America's leading brewing companies with over 100 beer brands distributed throughout North America! In 1925 AnheuserBusch merged with Adolphus Busch Brewery Incorporated packing up all their brewery assets including closed breweries such as Odessa celery products manufacturing plant & Sam Houston Brewery located in Huntsville TX moving them all across Texas eventually ending up being headquartered in Wichita Falls TX! This move also caused most jobs within AnheuserBusch company to move away from Stuttgart Germany too!!!
