University Park, Texas is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,594 at the 2010 census. University Park is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first European settlers in University Park were Dutch Immigrants who arrived in 1845. They founded a small community on what is now property along Uptown Boulevard and Trinity Avenue. The town was renamed University Park after Baylor College of Medicine (now Baylor University) became a university in 1867. In 1898 the feds bought land adjacent to Uptown Boulevard from the Hays Company for $5 per acre and began to develop it into what is today University Park. The university opened its doors with 1,500 students on October 15, 1898 as Baylor Medical School. In 1907 Baylor acquired additional land east of Uptown Boulevard and began to build what is today Rice Hall and Main Street on that land. Today's Pemberton Campus opened in 1961 with an enrollment of 519 students from forty-one states and eleven countries including China, India and Africa. The Houston Oilers football team played their first game in University Park on November 7, 1951 against Lamar High School which was also their home ground at Rice Stadium until they moved to M&T Bank Stadium across Longwood Drive in Arlington Heights in 1996. The Oilers left for Houston after the 1992 season following relocating to Tennessee by then Owner Art Modell
