The University Park Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1904 by Dr. W.B. Terrell, a doctor who resided in the town of University Park, Texas. The club moved to its current location on North Lamar Boulevard in 1909. In 1923, the club purchased land adjacent to the now-demolished Baylor Stadium and built their present building which still stands today. In 1935, the rifle and pistol clubs merged into one organization under the name of the University Park Rifle and Pistol Club Incorporated (UPRPC). The merger resulted in a new clubhouse that featured a more modern design than previous buildings on campus. In 1959, UPRPC became an affiliate member of NRA International and organized its first annual meeting at Hotel Plaza Dallas in Dallas, Texas. That same year, they established themselves as an official NRA affiliate with full membership privileges within NRA continental headquarters in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. From then until 1967 when they disbanded due to lack of support from memberships and finances, UPRPC operated as an individual organization outside of NRA membership jurisdiction. In 1969 during President Richard Nixon's visit to Baylor University he attended a rifle range event hosted by UPRPC at McLennan Stadium located adjacent to Baylor campus while on campus for an appearance before students following his inauguration as president of the United States of America on January 20th1969 . Approximately 1 500 students from Baylor University were invited along with 50 or so faculty members from nearby Rice University participate including many top award winning professors from those institutions who provided targets for shooting practice at that stadium over two days ..... Mr Nixon was very pleased with what he saw and decided that it would be great training ground for future presidential visits to our country’s capitol city .... This event marked the beginning of long term relationship between our club and President Nixon ............... After his visit we donated $5000 towards improvements inside stadium ....... Today we are proud sponsorships for both NRA Annual Meetings held there each year
University Park is a city in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. The population was 34,521 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. University Park was founded in 1881 by educators and businessmen from Dallas and Arlington. The first school in University Park was opened in 1887. In 1970, University Park became the first municipality to be incorporated within theDallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The city was named for Drs. James Hogg (1851-1925) and John Denton (1860-1941). The two men were professors at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston when they decided to found a university in what would become University Park. They had asked friends and family for donations of land near their colleges so that the new university could be established without interference fromHoustonians or local politicians. Hogg died before he could get his college off the ground, but Denton managed to raise $1 million from various sources to build it on land donated by industrialists and political leaders including Sam Houston II. The cornerstone for the original building was laid on November 15, 1881 by Mayor Herbert Ladd with Governor John Connally present as part of a special ceremony marking Texas' entry into Confederation as an independent country On January 17th, 1888 UPUC students organized themselves into societies which made possible its early days In 1890 President Rufus King conferred an honorary Doctorate degree upon Mr J C Rankin who resided then at Cedar Hill On October 2nd 1903 Union Pacific Railroad donated land along Elm Street between Slaughter Road and IH 10 for use as a campus . buildings were completed on February 21st 1904 ..... From this day until 1936 all male students were required to attend oneof three schools – Agriculture or Engineering at Baylor or Medical School at Texas A&M . Female students attended either Rice Teachers College or Southern Methodist University . Thereafter until 1963 both male and female students attended different universities

In 1903, UNT became oneofAmerica’s first doctoral Universities when Dr James Buchanan Woodruff received his doctorate from Baylor college (now UT Austin). During World War I UI graduate Emile Zola served as an intelligence officer with General Pershing’s forces on the Mexican border where he developed relationships with both sides which wouldplaya significant role later during World War II when Zola worked as an advisor to President Franklin D Roosevelt
