University Park, Texas is a small town in south-central Texas on the outskirts of Austin. It is bordered by Manor to the east, Cedar Park to the north, and Oak Cliff to the west. In 1923, Central High School closed due to financial difficulties, and West Side Elementary School became the new school. In 2000, Northwood Intermediate/Secondary Schools merged with Lamar Consolidated Independent Schools District to form Lamar Consolidated Independent Schools District #1 (Lamar CISD #1). The name change was made because Lamar CISD had been using Education First Bank (EFB) as their bank account until that year. EFB provides services such as student loans and counseling for its customers’ children who attend charter schools in Lamar CISD #1 schools. As part of this merger agreement between Lamar CISD #1 and EFB, each school district agreed to create a joint committee called “The Committee on Academics” which will work together on curriculum development initiatives and other educational issues with an eye towards improving academic opportunities for all students attending their respective schools within the district boundaries. Additionally, each school district also agreed not to compete directly against one another in any athletic contests or club activities without prior written consent from both organizations

University Park began as a small agricultural town in the farwestern corner of Texas. In 1876, the University of Texas was founded in what is today Austin, and soon after, University Park became one of its most important campuses.
