On February 14, 1848, the first town meeting for the township took place and it was organized as a village under the name of Turtle Creek Townsite. The name change may have been due to Arbor City being established to the east and because no one wanted their town named after a creek they could only see from their homes. In 1853, when Trinity Church began construction on what would become Oak Cliff Road in University Park, most of Turtle Creek Townsite came with it including parts of what are now Elmendorf Boulevard and Greenway Drive. In 1861, when Trinity Church moved to its present location on Elmendorf Boulevard near Cedar Hill Cemetery, much of what is now University Park (including some homes built before then) became part of Arlington Heights through annexation by that municipality. University Park had its first schoolhouse in 1870 and first post office in 1872. It wasn't until 1907 that it opened its doors to students with Waco High School opening in nearby Woolridge two years earlier followed by Highlandtown High School in 1912 before finally becoming a public high school with Southwestern Junior College opened in 1953 which made it one of the first private colleges west of Interstate 10 in Texas. In 1957 Austin High School opened adjacent to Prairie View A&M University which also made University Park one of the largest universities ever open to students from Dallas County outside UT or Baylor College Station outside Houston TX (the others were UT–Dallas and Baylor). Some important events during this time include president Lyndon B Johnson's speech at USDulent Coliseum providing hope for racial integration along Shepherd Highway while also inaugurating USD flagship campus Dallas/Fort Worth Airport just south of downtown while also creating many jobs within Uptown/Downtown areas such as ITT International Technology Incorporated where Raytheon Company started operations as early as 1958 while also restaurants such as Alamo Inn & Suites soon becoming popular among students looking for research opportunities; establishment(s)of several small towns within Uptown/Downtown areas like Cedar Hill Village which grew out of housing developments adjacent to local schools during this time period; increasein manufacturing activity within Downtown area resulting in increased job availability throughout Downtown area with many new businesses opening up around this time including McDonald's fast food restaurant newly opening up next door to Joe's Barbecue early 80's still going strong today serving people late into the night despite numerous renovation projects over recent years - all without any central business district or lack thereof! In 1966 Uptown/Downtown areas were designated ' Entertainment Districts' under Mayor Yarborough following his recommendation following city Wide Plan 'A' developed by Planning Commission chaired by Driscoll - plans that focused largely upon revitalization/ redevelopment efforts centered aroundrespecting historic districts throughout city center rather thanboxed off single storefronts utilizing zoning regulations designed primarily for industrial purposes - plan which later led NorthPark neighborhoods northward towards downtown eventually forming today's light rail corridor route

After years of construction and expansion, University Park officially opened its doors to students on October 1st, 1914 with 587 students enrolled divided evenly among both public and private colleges/universities across Texas at that time! Today there are more than 26200 undergraduate students representing nearly 100 countries across six continents! Over $500 million has been invested into campus infrastructure since 1994 including new buildings such as Convocation Center & Residential Life Halls; Music Hall; Student Recreation Center; Physical Education Building; Veterinary Medicine Building; Health Sciences building - home to UT Southwestern Medical Foundation's Department of Cardiology - as well as two new football stadiums (1962 Stadium & 1984 Stadium) which have seen many championship games throughout their careers!
