After one term as mayor pro tempore (2009-11), Moreno ran for re-election and won against challenger Ricardo Orozco Jr., but lost to then-Councilman Jose Elizondo (D-San Antonio) when he ran for reelection in 2013. In 2016 mayoral election Angelo Rodriguez (R) emerged victorious over Elizondo after making significant campaign contributions from business donors who live near or are employed by nearby companies like AT&T and Dell Incorporated. In 2018 Mayor Rodriguez gave back his initial donation plus an additional $2 million dollars which will be put towards economic development projects in the area including job training and apprenticeship programs specifically targeting women and minorities
