The only other municipality within Travis County at that time was Pleasanton. On December 10, 1984, annexation by Austin made Universal City an officialAustin Municipal Corporation. On February 11th, 2006 Mayor Nelson Cruz announced plans to annex much larger portions of annexed Pleasanton (now part of Round Rock) so that both cities would have an even more comprehensive demographic mix: UniversalCity would include all or parts of Ennis(partly annexed from Alamo Heights), Temple (all but annexed from Montrose), Floresville(all but annexed from Manor Park), Cedar Hill(all but annexed from Mission Hills), Pflugerville(all but Annexed from Slaughtertown), Wimberley(partly annexed from Georgetown) and Cedar Park South(a small portion annexed from Cedar Park East). This proposal met resistance because residents there opposed any annexation beyond what they felt was their current neighborhood boundaries; however mayor Cruz's rationale for this move has been to bring together various neighborhoods that share some commonalities such as proximity to University Station/Westlake Village/Uptown/Brownsville/East Austin etc., while allowing each neighborhood its own voice through elected officials without interference or domination by another neighbor

Universal City, Texas is a city in the US state of Texas. It was founded on January 24, 1836 by General David Teague as the capital of the Republic of Mexico. When the Mexican–American War ended in 1848, Universal City became part of United States and it remained an American city until it was annexed by Mexico in 1906. The following year, Universal City became part of the new Mexican State of Galveston and continued to be an industrial center until its annexation by Austin in 1923. In 1930, Universal City merged with other nearby municipalities to form what is now known as San Antonio Regional Council. The city's founders were motivated by their desire for a central location for commerce and education within the newly created Republic of Mexico. After years of growth and development, San Antonio Regional Council lost its status as a municipal government when it was re-organized into Austin County in 1945. However, because Universal City had been municipally chartered since 1836 and had not ceased to exist as an independent municipality since then, Austin County placed jurisdiction over it under local Chapter 5 voting trustees which determined whether or not to maintain municipal services such as police protection and firefighting
In 1836, the Alamo Defenders were organized to protect the Mexican Mission San Antonio de Padua from attack. The group eventually became known as the Texan militia and fought against Mexican forces in what is now central Texas. In 1845, General Santa Anna's army invaded Texan soil and captured Austin, setting off a six-month-long battle that ended with the Mexican general's death. This event is considered one of the most decisive battles in American history. In 1840, General Sam Houston led an effort to drive Mexico out of Texas. He was successful and Texas became an independent republic. The western portion of modern-day Texas was added to this republic in 1846 by United States president James K Polk as part of the Compromise of 1850. This action saw Mexico cede territory in northcentral Texas (including today's Dallas) to Ulysses S. Grant for his efforts to save Fort Worth from being taken by Mexico during the Mexican War (1848-1850). The Republic of Texas grew increasingly prosperous under its new government and experienced rapid growth throughout the mid 1800s. However, growing wealth and population caused social unrest which culminated in a civil war between pro- slavery Texans and anti-slave Texans beginning in 1859. The war ultimately failed but left behind a lasting legacy: Reconstructionism – a policy pursued by successive American administrations aimed at reversing some of the social progress made during Reconstruction years after statehood for southern America had been granted following World War I
