Tomball is a small town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,993 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tomball-Lubbock, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tomball is located on I-10 east of Lubbock and west of Amarillo. The townsite was named for John Thomas from Independence Township near present day Tomball. The first post office in Tomball opened in 1887 and continued operation until 1907. The first school in Tomball was built in 1911 and operated until 1916. A new school was built in 1925 and remains operational today as Tomballs High School. In 1959, the town voted to become an independent municipality. TomBALL has always been a major commercial center for the area with many stores and restaurants including Subway (opened 1973), Amesmax (1966), Jamba Juice (1978), Taco Bell (1983), Wendy's (1986), KFC (1987) and Pizza Hut (1990). There are also several smaller businesses such as Masterpiece Carpet Cleaning, Auto Glass Repair & Service, Mobile Home Park Rentals Inc., Dairy Queen/ Dunkin' Donuts/Cupcakes et al.. Amarillo College is located just north of town on FM 620 W between Uvalde Rd./ US 287 N and FM 522 W which forms one side of the same intersection as Interstate 10

Tomball is a city in Chambers County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Tomball was founded by settlers in 1881. It became a city on March 6, 1896. Tomball is known for its cotton production and as the home of Texaco and other oil companies during the late 20th century and early 21st century. The town of Tomball was founded in 1881 by German-born farmers who came to what is now Chambers County from Hennepin County, Minnesota. They named their new community after Thomas Ball, an American general who had fought in Mexico during the Mexican–American War. The town grew quickly due to its location near the intersection of two major US railroads – the Houston & Texas Central Railway (HTC) and the San Antonio & New Braunfels Railway (SANB). In 1886, Tomball acquired a water supply from Springwood Springs located six miles northeast of town. On October 25, 1886, Mayor John Wirth erected a wooden frame courthouse with four rooms that served as City Hall until replaced by a more permanent structure in 1902. By 1907, residents of Tomball were using coalburning ovens heated by hot plates to bake bread instead of open fireplaces as part of their personal heating needs for cooking purposes; this innovation led to increased prosperity for the small community as well as its designation as one of "the most beautiful towns in Texas". During World War II local businesses produced munitions for both sides; many family members worked at local plants producing everything from artillery rounds to gasoline cans. After the war ended Tomball began experiencing rapid growth due to suburban development around it; however growth stopped when transportation improvements cut off access to most jobs within driving distance of town center. However progress has been made since then with plans for downtown redevelopment which are scheduled to begin construction this year; this will include expanded shopping malls and new office buildings including an upcoming Hilton hotel/conference center on I-10 just outside town limits
Tomball was founded in 1847 and is the oldest town in Texas. The town was named for General Tom Spangler, who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1861, Tomball was annexed by Austin and became a part of that city's new municipality.
