Tomball is located in the Archery and Rifle Association of Texas (ARAT) region, which includes portions of western Texas. The town was founded in 1871 by cattle ranchers, who named it Great Tomball after General Tom Parker. In 1924, the post office was moved from Tomball to Palestine. The present day Tomball City Limits were annexed by the city of Tomball in 1966. The history of gun targets in Tomball dates back to 1871 when cattle ranchers erected a few small target posts around their properties in what is now the town of Great Tomball. By 1924, Targetmaster Company had established a larger operation in Palestine and began erecting more substantial targets on public roads throughout the community. In 1967, Targetmaster merged with Brownells company and continued to produce high-quality target products until 1991 when they ceased production entirely. Today, former Targetmasters fields can still be found scattered throughout central and west Texas; some are still operational while others have been converted into Victory markets or used as animal shelters. In 1925, Mayor John Solloway visionaryized the idea for a municipal government within city limits that would allow for development within boundaries prescribed by vote from resident’s representatives instead of being beholden to county officials overseeing agriculture and other basic needs such as water supply and infrastructure development. After years of discussion between various entities including City Council members Jens Rasmussen (R), Don Shoup (D), Bobbie Bourgeois (B) & Edna Ewing (E) all spearheaded efforts culminating with passage of a resolution establishing city limits on November 3rd 1926 following an election held just two days earlier! This unique form of government served as an example for other municipalities aspiring to similar levels of autonomy before eventually succumbing under County jurisdiction during times OF increased population growth associated with World War II followed by post-war economic decline/downturn! It should be noted that although several attempts were made over time to establish gun targets within city limits without success due largely to jurisdictional challenges stemming from increasing population density along arterial streets established during early 20th century suburban sprawl; Gun Targets Houston did manage to open its doors sometime later –albeit much smaller at only 10 feet square! Tomball experienced significant growth following its incorporation into city limits with new businesses opening up nearly immediate adjacent to originalARGETMASTER POSTS dotting arterial streets like Loop 610 W & Post Oak Rd becoming known simply as “Target Mall” across town quickly attracting customers from outlying rural areas eager for something larger than their local home market! Of note; numerous large 4x4 truck parking lot conversions took place near old homes surrounding namesake arterial street immediately adjoiningTarget Mall!!! Although many businesses closed down or relocated during tough economic times following regional recession starting in late 1990s resulting IN major damage To economy & environment inherited From previous decades!!!
