Tomball, Texas was founded in 1879 by George H. Tomball and is the oldest city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Ammunition production began in Tomball in 1881, and the city has been home to a munitions plant since 1893. The Arsenal of the Western Union Telegraph Company was located in Tomball from 1907 to 1917, and it manufactured explosives and shell casings for use by artillery, infantry, cavalry and other military devices. In 1916, ammunition production at the Arsenal stopped due to World War I; however, shells continued to be made at the plant until 1942 when it closed down completely due to World War II. After World War II ended, ammunition production returned to Tomball with the opening of an ammunition factory called Midland Ammunition Corporation in 1957. Midland Ammunition produced small arms rounds and mortar fireballs until 1983 when it merged with Brownells Incorporated to form Brownells Ammo Corporation. brownells Ammo Corporation continues manufacture of small arms rounds and mortar fireballs today.

Tomball is a small town in Texas, located in the Limestone Belt region. The population of Tomball was 1,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The first settlers to Tomball were George and Martha Dyer who arrived in 1848. They raised cotton and cattle on their farm until they sold it in 1860 to James Fenton for $4,000 cash. The Fenton family operated a mill there until 1912 when it was taken over by the Tomball-Lincoln Railroad Company. In 1916, the Lincoln Railroad bought out the Tomball-Lincoln Railroad Company and continued operations as the Lincoln Railway Company until it merged with Gulf & Western Railway in 1951. The community began to rise rapidly during World War II because of its excellent agricultural potential. The war led to an increase in production of food products such as corn, soybeans, cotton seed, flour, milk and other items that aided soldiers stationed here during World War II and afterward. In 1970, a new elementary school was built on land donated by Mrs. Lillie Hinton which became known as "The Gables". A new high school was also built then called "Tomball High School" but it closed before students ever graduated from it due to financial reasons around 1980-81; however this building still stands today as part of Heritage Park Elementary School which is located across from Memorial Stadium on FM 1960 near US 59E (the same site where Independence Hall used to stand). In 1985-1986 a large shopping mall called "Tomball Towne Center" opened up adjacent to Heritage Park Elementary School inside what is now Farmers Market Place Shopping Center next door - however this mall failed quickly due largely to competition from better known malls such as Minute Maid Park or Reliant Stadium - although some remnants remain today including two large freeway interchange ramps leading into town (I-10/US 59E) which are currently named after Lamar Hunt Jr.'s son Tony hurling games at them! . Finally in 2000 a new high school was built called "Brownsville HS" adjacent toVeterans Memorial Coliseum - Brownsville HS later became known as Rice University's Sam Houston State University branch campus after Sam Houston State Univ purchased brownsburgHS property from Rice University in 2011; however this Campus too failed soon afterwards due mainly To budget cuts made by then Governor Rick Perry! . However another effort started up recently by former state Senator Ann Richards (D) aimed at starting a successful program providing scholarships for local students prepping for college or careers has been more successful so far... thus showing that even though big projects fail sometimes smaller efforts can succeed!
