The Colony, Texas was founded in 1836 by the father of current Mayor of San Antonio Melvin Carter. The town was originally named "Tejas" but it was changed to Colony in honor of George Washington. The first settler in the area were two brothers who traveled from Kentucky and settled on a small ranch near what is now Midtown San Antonio. They named their land Tejas after their home state. In 1849, Mexican forces invaded the region andstantially destroyed most of the colony except for a few buildings around Midtown San Antonio. Most of the settlers fled or were forced to abandon their homes as Mexico attempted to reconquer Texas for Spain. In 1851, Johnson County was formed from parts of Johnston and Bexar counties and Tejas became part of Johnson County. In 1865, due to continuing skirmishes with Mexican forces, Colonel James Fenton organized a militia detachment known as The Texas Rangers to suppress Indian uprising in what is todaySan Pedro County. After three years of operations, Fenton's force had killed more than 100 Indians and driven them out of the area. In 1886, when San Antonio incorporated as a city, Tejas became part of its boundaries. In 1912 Tejas seceded from Johnson County and joined San Antonio proper within Austin Municipal District #1 (AMD#1). Municipal district #2 (AMD#2) encompassed much of what is now East Side Austin including portions adjacent to South Austin that later became annexed into Austin City Limits Neighborhood Districts 1 & 2 On November 14th, 2015 City Councilwoman Anna Alvarez successfully proposed amending Resolution No 00-126 which would annex much unincorporated areas adjacent to South Austin eastward along I-35W including portions annexed into Centennial Hills Neighborhood District 3
