There is no single event that has defined the history of firearms in The Colony, Texas more than the arrival of Native Americans. In 1836, the Texas Rangers were hired to suppress a cattle-ranching insurrection led by Texans dissatisfied with their new state government. The Ranger force discovered and destroyed over eighty small virulent Indian outfits in what became known as the Good Friday Massacre. This victory demonstrated to Mexico that Texas was open for settlement and began a process that would see Mexican forces arrive in large numbers to help garrison and protect American settlements across the Lone Star State. The development of firearms at this time was unique among any region of North America. These early muzzleloaders were made largely from crude oakum (a type of bark) or other available materials, and required considerable practice to fire properly. However, these rudimentary devices soon proved themselves invaluable during frontier conflicts against Indians and Mexicans alike. Today, many Texans still retain memories of Good Friday – including some who choose to wear firearms on special occasions

The Colony, Texas is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It lies about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Austin and about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Dallas. The town was founded in 1872 by pioneers from Illinois who began to build a community on the edge of a prairie near what is now Colony Road. The name "Colony" originated with the fact that there were no other settlements nearby for many miles. In 1874, the Texas Legislature granted land to the town for an Agricultural College; this school became known as Lamar University in 1916. In 1978, the college merged with another university to becomeTexas A&M University-Texarkana; however, Texarkana closed its doors within two years and Colony continued to use its current name until 2000 when it changed back to McLennan County's only incorporated settlement. There are several reasons why The Colony may have been chosen as its site: it is well located east of Interstate 10 and north of Interstate 35W; it has access to water resources including three reservoirs; and it is close to major highways that facilitate trade and transportation between neighboring counties. 4 development projects totaling $226 million were announced by McLennan County during fiscal year 2018 which will improve economic opportunities for residents in The Colony area. These new projects include: 1) A $30 million mixed-use development called Riverwalk Meadows which will consist of office space, residential units and a hotel/residence hall; 2) A $50 million expansion project for Prairie View Medical Center which includes 587 bedsurgical surgery capacity; 3) An expansion project for Walmart Supercenter which will cost $100 million and include more than 1125 stores across six states including Texas; 4) A joint venture agreement between Marriott International Incorporated and Brown Brothers Harriman Properties LLC called Enterprise Park which will bring 300 jobs inside Commerce Drive Shopping Center proper while also creating a parkland component outside of the shopping center along I-10

Despite this opposition, The Colony managed to purchase about 2 square miles (4 km²) of land adjacent to San Antonio River before being forced out by Mexican troops in November 1840. For several years following its evacuation, The Colony functioned almost completely independently; however, relations between colonists and Mexican authorities were tense at best. When Texas seceded from Mexico in 1861, most colonists chose not to stay on newly acquired lands west of Manor Road; instead they moved back eastward into what is now Austin. A few remaining colonists continued to reside near Buffalo Bayou until 1865 when they finally evacuated afterHouston ordered them out because he feared they would help Confederate forces during the American Civil War. After Texan independence was secured, most colonists returned home or relocated elsewhere in Southwest Texas . Today there are only a handful remaining descendants of those early settlers living in Austin .
The Colony was a small, isolated community in the Texas Hill Country that was founded in 1859 by members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The town was located near what is now Junction City, Texas. The colony had only around fifty-six residents when it began operations. By 1860, the town had grown to over two hundred people. In 1876, the colony was forced to leave its location due to a local land dispute.
