The Colony began as a small, frontier town in 1836. It grew rapidly after the completion of the Santa Fe Trail in 1846 and was named for the Spanish settlement of San Francisco de Alcalá, which had been founded by Spanish explorers in 1542. The town became a center for cattle ranching and agriculture, and it prospered until around 1875 when oil discoveries began to be made in nearbyHouston. This new industry caused petroleum prices to rise drastically and led to a rapid decline in Colony's economy. In 1911, the town was renamed Houston after then-President James K. Polk.

By World War I, The Colony had become a typical Anglo-Saxon agricultural society with a population of around 100 people. However, by the late 1920s, The Colony's growth had slowed due to changes in social and economic conditions within Rusk County. In 1930, The Colony became an independent municipality within Rusk County. The Colony is one of several small towns located along the Brazos River that were founded during the early days of ranching in Rusk County. These towns were developed as agricultural communities with access to water resources and good land for farming. During the early years of ranching in Rusk County, many settlers created small villages near irrigation ditches that supplied water for their crops. These villages served as trading posts between ranchers and local farmers until Eventually large ranches became dominant in Rusk County and these rural settlements disappeared. Today, few remains exist from these earlier village communities

The firstCommercial BB gun was created by Dan Wesson in 1898. In 1899, British scientist Hatton submitted an invention for what is now known as the .22 LR revolver, which led to the development of BB pistols specifically for this caliber. In 1902, US inventor John Browning patented his design for a semiautomatic pistol that fired rounds through a tube attached to the barrel. This technology was later adapted to create the BB gun we know today. In 1916, Browning also developed a rifle using his bbgun design and called it the “Browning Automatic Rifle” (BAR). The BAR became one of World War I’s most popular weapons due its accuracy and firepower. During World War II, both American and Japanese engineers worked on further refining BB guns and rifles in order to provide them with greater firepower and range. One such weapon was the Colt M1911 handgun, which became one of America’s most popular handguns after WWII ended.Today,BB guns continue to be used throughout various genres of shooting including airsoft games and target shooting competitions

The Colony, Texas was founded in 1836 by the group of Texans who were looking to find a new home. The colony was named for the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam which had been abandoned in 1664. The colonists built their first structure, a log cabin, in 1837. They soon realized that they needed more space and began building larger structures. In 1840, they founded the town of Victoria and started trading with the surrounding villages. In 1845, they established the town of College Station and started trading with Mexico. By 1850, the colony had grown to over 400 people and had started manufacturing goods such as cotton textiles and shoes. In 1861, Texas seceded from the United States and became an independent country known as The Confederate States of America. The Colony continued to exist until 1865 when it was destroyed by a fire
The Colony was the first permanent European settlement in Texas. The land that would become Texas belonged to Spain for over a century, but by the time American forces invaded Texas in 1836, it had already been claimed by the United States. On July 24, 1836, President James K. Polk issued a proclamation ordering all U.S. citizens to vacate the remaining Spanish holdings in Texas within forty-eight hours or be driven out and replaced with Americans. As part of theorder, General John Fayette Houston took control of an army and began organizing settlers into camps on November 1st of that year. In January 1837, Houston announced that all Texans were free to choose between joining him or being driving out of the state. After much discussion and some back-and-forth with Mexican officials, about 36 percent of Texans chose to stay and form their own government while 42 percent seceded to join Mexico. The rest joined Houston’s army as volunteers and fought against American forces until they were finally drive out in 1840 after a series of Battles of San Jacinto which ended with American victory over Mexico at Alamo Heights
