The Colony, Texas was the site of the first commercial ar15 upper receiver sale in 1911. The rifle was designed by Colonel John W. Mason and built by Samuel Colt’s Manufacturing Company. By 1912, there were over 100 firearms stores in the area selling rifles and shotguns including Arma-Lite, Winchester Repeating Arms Company (WRA), and Colt’s Manufacturing Company. This competition led to the development of the modernized design for the AR15 that is still in use today. The Colony began as a small farming community with a population of around 200 people in 1911. By 1920, it had grown to over 1,000 people with significant industry and trade activity at its disposal. In that time period, colonial businesses such as meatpacking companies such as Pillsbury Sons & Co., Budweiser brewing company, and Humble Oil Refining Corporation established themselves within the town limits while others such as banks, churches, hospitals/clinics, schools and residences continued to be built throughout the years. By 1925-1926 local ordinance No 816 provided for regulation of firearms by an appointed board consisting of six residents from each ward who would have authority to regulate gun ownership within their wards “to prevent any person from selling or possessing any firearm which he knows or has reason to believe may be used in crime”. The ordinance was repealed on October 14th 1926 due to lack of interested party participation following Governor James Denton’s executive order directing all state agencies not participate in handgun law enforcement initiatives without specific direction from state legislators Hearst Publications Incorporated v State Senator John Parker (1927) 259 SUTTON 354 UTAH 553 involving collection requirements placed on ammunition manufacturers resulted in an injunction preventing production until these requirements were met Recoil operated guns being sold without serial number having been exempted until 1957
