That same year Texansville was founded nearby on Bowie's property[4], which today houses an educational museum dedicated to Texas City history and culture. On July 6, 1912, Mexico severed its ties with America and went into exile following Francisco Madero's coup d'état that brought President Porfirio Diaz to power. With America now out of World War I hostilities erupted between American troops stationed in Monterrey and Mexican soldiers loyal to Diaz until finally peace was restored five days later on July 10th 1912 when Ulysses S Grant arrived in Monterrey unannounced[5]. This event marked the end of hostilities between Mexicans residing within U.S.-controlled territory and those living outside it postwar; such actions led what would become known as "the Villa Wars". The last American military presence in Baja California ended on November 1st 1924 when General Douglas MacArthur relieved Admiral Isidro García y Pacheco as Commander-in-Chief Naval Forces Southwest Pacific Area effectiveDecember 15th 1923[6]; ending more than seventy years of continuous American rule over Baja California

Texas City gradually lost its importance as a commercial center as well as its political power beginning in the 1870s due to increasing population growth and development on the adjacent Texarkana Railroad reservation.
