Texas City is a town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,594 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Texas City was J.B. Haney who arrived in 1836 and named his new settlement after himself, Houston County being one of the original counties formed in Texas. After 1900, many local businesses came into being within TXC including insurance companies (e.g., Farmers Insurance Company), real estate firms (e.g., Humble & Richardson), breweries (e.g., New Holland Brewing Company), meatpacking plants (Eaton Meatpacking Co.),and grocery stores (Jenny’s Stop). During World War II, TXC played an active role as an airbase and munitions manufacturing center; factories produced planes such as Liberator bombers and P-47 Thunderbolts for United States pilots flying over Nazi Germany during Operation Overlord; these factories are still extant today as part of NASA's Armstrong Flight Facility complex located just outside of downtown TXC on IH-35W/IH-45W arterial roads adjacent to Rice University campuses across from UTEP's Kyle Field stadium). In 1951,txc passed through a time warp when legislation was created ratifying inhabitants' choice of name for their new municipal government; since that date it has been known as "TXC" without any further capitalization or punctuation...the original form chosen by citizens prior to incorporation...the only indication that anything changed occurred when a new Municipal District No." was created effective July 1st 1959... subsequent changes were made to districts no later than January 1st 1971 due to annexation of neighboring municipalities which took place between 1965 - 1970 inclusive... finally on October 15th 1992 commissioners consolidated all 6 existing district NO.'s into one newly formed Municipal District No." making Texaco our current name!
