These businesses helped contribute to the development of Texan City as one of America’s most vibrant gun communities! In 1876, the first issue of the "Travis County News" was published in Texas City. The paper was founded by John T. Travis and became one of the most popular newspapers in Austin. The paper's editors were also responsible for setting up the first free public library in Austin. In 1907, "The Texas City News" merged with "The Daily Texan" to form the current edition of "Texas City Chronicle".
In 1846, the United States of America acquired Texas from Mexico. The Mexican government had ceded Texas to the U.S. in 1845 in order to gain time torecruit more soldiers for the Mexican-American War (1846-48). As a result of this treaty, the land that would later be called Texas City was part of Mexico and not included in the United States until it was Annexed by the U.S. on November 16, 1912. The town began as a small farming community located on present day Commerce Street and Bowie Avenue near what is now UT Austin’s south side. By 1851, local citizens had erected a few buildings including a schoolhouse and jail which served as both residences and business premises. A theater was built in 1855 which operated intermittently until 1861 when it burned down due to an accident involving some building construction materials being left unattended while still under construction During its formative years, Texas City experienced growth due largely to European migration - primarily English speaking Protestants coming seeking new opportunities in what had been known as “the great American Borderland” during the late 19th century following waves of emigration from Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia and Germany Most notably, Dutchman Jacobus Ten Boom established a trading post at Texarkana in 1795 before moving his operations westward into what is now Arkansas County in 1800 . In addition to trade with Native Americans along the Arkansas River (now TX), Ten Boom also traded with Spain through their presidio at San Antonio de Bexar (now El Paso) . This commercial activity helped stimulate economic development throughout northeastern New Mexico Territory soon after it was acquired by Texas In 1836 Mexican General Joaquin Lopez de Santa Anna ordered all Anglo settlers east of Zacatecas removed without warning or compensation under threat of military action if they did not leave within 24 hours . Many Texans who were living east of San Antonio were forced into two camps: East San Angelo on US-Mexico border then Rancho del Rio Grande upriver where most faced starvation or execution; or Alamosa Springs near Pecos along US-Mexican boundary where about 10% surviveddue largely to food rations given out by Ulysses S Grant , commander general of Union forces during President James K Polk’s term (1849-53) Of those who refused Removal Order No 2 Santa Anna issued an order dated January 8, 1840 ordering all residents west of Matagorda Pass northward “to enter immediately upon ascertainment that no person therein living continuedueling obstinately opposed our Government…or refusing either quarter” Although many people complied with this order there were also cases such as John Rusk who fought against Santa Anna's forces until he surrendered at Alamo Heights on March 6th , 1840 together with his entire command over 9 hundred men including his captaincy general José Avilés On November 16th 1912 portions of Webb County became portion of Dallas County when Dallas incorporated

Texas City is a small town in southern Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2000 census. The name "Texas City" is likely derived from the fact that it was founded near the present-day city of Austin by Anglo Texans in 1836 as a trading post on the banks of the Colorado River. The first store and post office in Texas City were built in 1836 by James Fenton and others who journeyed down from San Antonio to open up trade with Mexican traders. In 1840, James Fenton's son, John Fenton (1802-1868), developed what would become known as Rio Grande Avenue which runs through downtown Texas City today. In 1851, John Fenton married Anna Maria Flores (1820-1892) and they moved their family to what is now east Austin. They operated a general store until their death in 1888; Anna Maria Flores leftovers from her husband's business are still found today at various locations around town including The Bliss Hotel on Main Street. In 1896, Jens Jensen started his own grocery store on Second Street in downtown Texas City and named it Jensen's Grocery & Clothing Store after himself and his brother-in-law Ole Jensen (1861-1937). At first there were only two stores in downtown Texas City - Jens Jensen's Grocery & Clothing Store and Dolph Schaeffer's Drugstore - but over time more substantial businesses cropped up including an automotive parts supply shop, a restaurant/bar called White Sands Saloon & Grill, a livery stable/hotel combination known as the Royal Palace Hotel & Casino (now known as Bob Evans Texan Pizza), several shoe stores, and finally Reilly Hardware just south of First Street between Neches Road and Interstate 35E. Although some of these businesses failed during prohibition years when Dallas was closed off to commerce because of its ban on alcohol sales outside of white southerners only restaurants or bars - most notably Reilly Hardware which had to close its doors due to lack of customers during prohibition - they continued into the next decade with various new names including Reilly Hardware Co., Little America Storage Company #1 (later Little America Storage Company #2), Broadway Trading Post Inc., Broadway Merchants Warehouse Inc., simply TXCity Market Place Inc., Hispanic Gilded Age Mercantile Center Association Ltd., etcetera until finally being shuttered for good byOwner Roy Reilly circa 1984 sometime after he acquired control over all business entities via incorporation paperwork On December 15th 1895 – one week after Christmas – local citizens convened at Riley Hardware’s location “to celebrate the opening thereof by Mr. Jens Jensen [the] proprietor” according to State Recordsawaiting Publication No.: HEB91423 §4(c). This event markedtxcity’s official incorporation into our state record collection under Republic Code Sections 571 et seq.. In 1898Txcity became an incorporator for Brazoria County under Republic Code Section 672[1]. On November 30th 1906Txcity voted 3:2 against annexation into Guadalupe County[2][3]; however this vote did not reflect community sentiment as many residents felt their taxes were too high for annexation within Guadalupe County following World War I which destroyed much property withintxcity . After Weworld War I txcity began experiencing rapid growth due largely to influxesof war veterans who leased apartments and home rights from veteran landlords resulting in increased commercial activity along Rio Grande Avenue particularly west of First Street . On September 12th 1928TxCity passed an ordinance establishing weekly limits on liquor sales within city limits effective September 17th 1928….
