In 1899 Texcity annexed Pleasanton which had been part of Pecan Grove Township since 1800 but had not been annexed because it lacked a highway connection between the two townships. In 1933, TexCity annexed Alpine which had formerly been part of Manor Park Township but also did not have a highway connection so annexation was later withdrawn due to this fact alone making Alpine one of the youngest townships ever annexation into an urban area in Texas City history. Today Texans City has developed into one of Southwestern TX's most vibrant communities with many new businesses opening up every month including several top ranked restaurants like White Rabbit Pizza & Brewing Co., Black Bean BBQ & Cafe,and Moon Pie Palace.. There are also numerous religious institutions located within walking distance including Trinity Bible Church (founded 1886), Godfrey Catholic Church (1897), First Baptist Church (1910), Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel (1915) and finally First PresbyterianChurch (1896).
