Texas City is a small town in Medina County, Texas, located about 25 miles (40 km) east of Dallas. The population was 7,879 at the 2010 census. From 1872 until 1938 it was known as "Canton", then "Richmond". In 1938 it became part of the new city of Dallas. The first ammunition store in Texas City opened in 1872. It was a small shop on Elm Street near what is now White Settlement Boulevard. Ammunition production began in the early 1800s and by 1907 there were twenty-four stores selling rounds and shot shells from reloading guns to farmers and hunters across the state of Texas. In 1898 an ammunition company named The Arsenal Company was founded in Richmond, Virginia by Colonel Edward Aiken and his brother-in-law Captains George Ladd and John Sutter. They contracted with local gunsmiths to create a line of rifle cartridges that would be more efficient than older designs used by other companies such as Winchester and Colt. Ammunition production continued through World War I but during World War II most manufacturing stopped because of wartime rationing conditions; however, some munitions still remain today including high pressure cannon shotshells made by Smith & Wesson which are used for muzzleloading artillery projectiles

The first National Armory in Texas City, Texas was established in 1892. The armory served as a source of ammunition for the local militia and also supplied ammunition to other businesses in the city. In 1903, the armory was destroyed by a fire. The current armory building was constructed in 1922.

The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources and its location along the Santa Fe Railway, which connected San Antonio and Houston. By 1881, Texan John Hogg had founded a lumber company in Texas City that became one of the largest logging companies in America. In 1903, Texan George Waddell donated land to build Austin's first municipal courthouse; construction began that year and finished three years later. By 1915, Texan James Buchanan had founded Hutchison Oil Company with interests in oil production and transportation throughout South Texas; Hutchison merged with Standard Oil Company in 1916 to form United States Petroleum Corporation (USP). At USP headquarters on Main Street in downtown TXC, executives developed plans for developingTexaco Field adjacent to their refinery property on Buffalo Bayou by building an artificial lake across from theirleased lands south of I-45 between Loop 610W & FM 19606 (now known as Creature Comforts subdivision). In 1928 USP merged with American Petroleum Corporation to become ExxonMobil; within two decades TXC would be home to some of ExxonMobil's most famous Facilities - including their original crude oil refinery on Buffalo Bayou just east of town limits - as well as other related industries such as petrochemicals, plastics etc., making it one of America's leading petroleum hubs during this time period

The Greeks used two types of small arms: hoplite spears and sling shots. In 1861, the British Small Arms Company began producing cannons that could shoot smoothbore rounds which led to the development of artillery. In 1865, percussion caps were invented which allowed for much more powerful firearms with increased range and accuracy. By 1903, most infantryman had access to rifles and machine guns.
Texas City was founded in 1836 by Captain James F. Caldwell as the capital of the Republic of Texas. The city quickly became a center of commerce and culture, thanks to its location at the mouth of the Brazos River. In 1861, following the American Civil War, Texas City became an important military depot and was home to over 10,000 soldiers and sailors. The city also played a significant role in the recovery of Texas after the war. After Reconstruction ended in 1877, Texas City declined into obscurity until it regained its status as a cultural and commercial center during the early 21st century.
The first white people to live in Texas City were the Comancheros, who arrived in 1836. The area around today's Texas City was inhabited by the Kiowa and Apache tribes before the arrival of American settlers. In 1859, a group of Mormon missionaries from Utah settled in what is now Austin and began missionary work in what is now Texas City. They named their new settlement after President James K. Polk, who had been elected that year as the 44th president of the United States. The Mormons built a chapel and started to sell goods from their store on Main Street until they ran out of money in 1868. In 1870, a Methodist congregation moved into what is today called South Lamar Boulevard and began to preach sermons from their church building across from southbound US Highway 90. By 1880, Texas City had become an important center for cattle ranching and shipping on the Trinity River.
