The Texarkana Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1912 in Texarkana, Texas with the goal of promoting hunting and shooting sport in the area. In 1938, the club changed its name to The Texarkana Rifle and Pistol Association. The organization became a state-chartered corporation in 1957.
Texarkana is a small city in southern Texas, located on the border of La Salle County and Webb County. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It lies in the eastern edge of the Uptown Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Texarkana comes from a Cherokee word meaning "the place where water rises". The town was founded by Charles Barkley and his brother George, who leased land from Robert E. Lee for cattle drives in 1887. In 1907, Barkley sold his interest in Texarkana to J.P. Morgan for $1 million dollars. In 1915, Texarkana became one of the sites chosen for the relocation of American Motors Corporation's manufacturing plant which produced Ford cars and trucks at its first location outside Detroit. By 1955, American Motors had closed its doors at Texarkana after producing over 200 vehicles there. During World War II,Texarkana played an important role as a production center for munitions production at Bexar County Arsenal #8 near San Antonio Airport; Allied troops used it as an assembly point for automobiles before shipment to Europe and Japan. After the war ended in 1945, most industry left Texarkana but some stores remain open today including Jack In The Box restaurant adjacent to Lamar University campus which has been serving customers since 1935
