Terrrell, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2000 census. The Terrell post office has been in operation since 1907. It is named after General John Fenton Terrell. The first settler in what is now Terrell was Tom Chilton and his family who arrived on horseback from Illinois in 1859. In 1865, John Fenton Terrell purchased land from the Chilton family and began to develop it into a small community. On October 3, 1907, the town of Terrell incorporated as a city under the name of "Terrrell". From its early days as an agricultural community with only three crops per year being grown,Terrelty became a center for heavy industry during the 20th century with both light manufacturing (such as printing presses) and heavy industrialization (such as shipyards) taking place here. Some of these industries remain active such as Texaco and American Telephone & Telegraph Company which are still headquartered in town today. Today's economy revolves largely around ranching and farming though some light industry has returned to the area including oil production onshore fromusher fields located near Marathon Petroleum Corporation's refinery complex; however most of the growth has come from new businesses founded within walking distance of downtown Terrell – most notably BizRadar which opened up shop on Main Street in 2007 just across from Baylor University's Waco campus – providing opportunities for entrepreneurship that have helped define this vibrant downtown core over time. The thriving downtown core has not always been without controversy however - one example being when city officials decided to install streetlights at nightinstead of using candles or oil lanterns to generate electricity which would have saved money but created nuisance among residents who had to constantly adjust their lights so that drivers could see them while they drove by; this led to several confrontations between pedestrians and drivers over the years culminating in one instance where two cars were smashed into viewlights after a traffic stop occurred while people were attending services at Stake Center Baptist Church nearby
