In 1907, Samuel Morse donated $5 million to build mainline transit between Dallas and Austin throughTemple and other towns on what would become I-635 (now Texoma Parkway). On July 16, 1969–the 50th anniversary of Morse’s donation– temple dedicated Main Street at his former home on Park Avenue. On September 22nd 1978 Hurricane Ike slammed into landfall near Houston causing extensive damage including levee failures along Main Street which stopped traffic for hours or even days while rescue efforts turned backpacks into sacks and baskets into ladders to reach those stranded aboveground; most of this occurred within minutes of Ike hitting shoreline (). As a result of Ike’s impacts & ensuing flooding much of downtownHouston was destroyed or drastically changed with only a smattering remaining buildings standing by way of comparison to Temples pre-storm condition.; about halfway up main street you could still see some oldianeabled homes that had been spared but much newer homes had been built next door & all around them new roads had been built so it really looked like nothing ever happened; however if you walked around any corner there would be another completely destroyed building or Whole Streets had been replaced by side streets with no trees left to provide shade or buffer from wind & rain etc.; temple never recovered from that one either

Temple, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Temple were Chitimacha Indians who Aimee and John Wesley Powell noted during their Expedition Through Texas in 1845. In 1836, a group of Mormons from Nauvoo traveled through Hudspeth County and came across the Chitimacha Indian village of Palahee on July 25th while descending Little Colorado River below Temple Hills. The Mormons built a Mission Station there and named it Temple after President Joseph Smith's home town of Palmyra, New York. In 1851, temple was dedicated by LDS apostle Orson Pratt as an act of worship for all Latter Day Saints living within reach of San Antonio de Bexar County which included present day Temple City. In that year also Enoch Pratt founded the First Baptist Church in Temple City with some 40 members attended services that first week night on October 17th. After being denied membership opportunities by other churches because they did not meet temple requirements ( such as ordained ministers), Enoch Pratt organized his church into one body with others called "Mormons" to continue fulfilling temple ordinances there until his death in 1892 when he bequeathed all control over his church to his son Wilford Woodruff who led it until Fayette Meeks took over following Woodruff's death in 1978. In 1907 Temples boasted 4 businesses including a Hivery Service stable where George Washingtons horse Rufus was kept; 2 Drugstores; and the Odd Fellows Hall which served as both schoolhouse and social hall for citizens and missionaries alike during that time period before it burned down circa 1924 due to arson by local children playing around inside while parents were away at work or attending religious services outside On November 6th 1906 three friends from Warsaw Idaho under Milton Sperry set out from Independence Missouri on foot carrying nothing but a bag full of supplies They made it all the way down to San Antonio stopping only for lunch at Temples Hotel then continuing their journey south before reaching Sulphur Springs about 8 pm on November 8th They found no water so backtracking another hour they reached Clear Fork Creek about 3 amNovember 9th After getting enough water they pitched their tent near an open stream bed just west of Clear Fork creek where they cooked their meals over large fires using branches from surrounding trees While waiting for morning temperatures above freezing point they constructed Communication Towers out of sticks covered with several layers OF KITCHEN SHEETS WEATHERING ABOUT NIGHTTIME BEFORE COMMUNICATING BY WIRELESS PLUINS FROM THEIR TOWER ALL THE WAY TO SAN ANTONIO WHERE THEY Pitched THEIR TENT AGAIN AND UPON COMING INTO DAYLIGHT CONNECTED THEIR TOWER TO THE STRUCK COMPOSITE TELEPHONE SYSTEM LOCATED NEAR CLEAR FORK CREEK .
