In 1966–1967, local television station KUTV aired live high school football games from Temple's then-new $8 million stadium which held 68,000 spectators; this would become known as "The Rose Bowl". Temple won its only championship game that season against Alcorn State College with quarterback Don Majkowski throwing for 261 yards and four touchdowns connection to go along with rushing scores from Maurice Clarett (a future Heisman Trophy winner) and Willie Snead (the eventual NFL MVP). Other notable sports events during these years include the 1968 Summer Olympics where both teams were eliminated after playing two rounds of eliminations;[1] an NCAA-wide double overtime baseball game played at Robertson Coliseum between Rice University and Tulane University;[2] three months of professional wrestling action including two shows boxing matches between Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Snuka each taking place under one night’s notice each outside Houston’s Astrodome—the largest built for professional wrestling outside North America up until that time;[3] multiple auto exhibitions including a display by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars inside the newly renovated Masonic Hall Annex near Main Street—now home to Wells Fargo Bank Tower—during First National City Bank's centennial celebration;;[4][5][6][7] numerous rock concerts headlined by Kiss or U2 throughout their career,[8][9][10] tennis tournaments organized by various universities during Richards Tennis Center construction period,[11] several annual balloon festivals,[12] revelry preceding Lenten services beginning on Saturday nights,[13][14][15], community service events such as planting trees or doing yard work for Habitat for Humanity during Christmas season,[16],[17]} among others
